Title: battery issue?
Post by: LazyLunatic on 25 January 2010, 15:11
I think i have a battery issue and i have it for a while, but it hasnt been a problem as such so havent bothered with it.

now if i leave my car say for a week, the battery goes flat, but on a day to day basis its fine, i can not use it for a couple days and it fine, but anything longer than say a week and its dies. now i have replaced the battery with a new halfords one, around 18 months ago. not sure its this thats the problem or whether its something else.

anyone shine some light here? just would be nice not have to disconnect the battery everytime im going away, etc. as its nice to keep it alarmed and locked lol.

I'm no expert at this but my guess would be something is draining power ever so slightly, so leaving it for the week will pull the juice from the battery, but over a couple of days it doesn't have enough time to pull all the juice?

As above you have a current drain, borrow a ampmeter and see with everything switched off if it is dropping, could be your alram or something like the boot light staying on.

 :afro:

Get a multimeter/ampmeter as Wayne said, get it on the battery terminals and start pulling fuses one by on (putting them back as you go) and when the amps drawn goes down (if there is any) you'll know what it is.

Just make sure you know any radio codes and can re program any alarm fobs first. :)

Might be worth just checking that it is charing properly as well. Stick the multimeter over the battery terminals and measure the volts when you rev the engine to about 2k. Should be something like 14volts.

i thought it was a slow drain...

yeah earths are all good, as i checked them when i did the conversion. audio isnt draining it, nor are any lights, etc. alarm isnt draining it either.....

its being charged fine too :)

i thought it was strange and its been like that since i got the car really. will have to check everything again and see if i can find the drain. its no big problem, just something i would like to have sorted. thanks for your help peeps :)
