Hello,
New here and need some help.
Were building a track car and just wondered if the brakes on the VR6 are uprated over the 8v GTi MK3?
And....if they are, does anyone have a set of front VR6 calipers and carriers please.
Help on this would be much appreciated.
Andy

VR6 brakes are 288mm. Mk3 GTi are 280mm although I had a mk3 GTi 8v fitted with VR6 brakes from the factory. Apparently, it comes down to part bin levels when the cars are being made.

sorry to jump in ere are all mk3 gti 280mm how can u tell what uve got!?

later GTI's had 288's too, think it was 1995 0nwards
-
reason i asked was i ordered some online they came was too smal so sent back and they sent another pair and they were the same so my 97 has 288 at guess work!!
-
mine was a 96 P so what Kells said makes sense

another of those internet myths. VR6 doesn't have uprated brakes over GTIs, they all had the same setup. 288mm brakes are an age thing, not a VR6 thing. All MK3 GTIs & VR6 after around 96 got 288s, regardless of engine fitted.

As above my 1996 had 288mm setup
-
vr6 1992-late 1993 had the 280mm front discs as per the gti (up to mid 95)
vr6 93on and gti from mid 95 came with 288mm
I've had 2 1995M plate gti's and 1 had 280 and the other 288 (It was apparently part of the 1996 facelift with the oval indicators)

My vr6 was a 1994 and it had 280mm brakes.
I think it was 1995 or 1996 onwards all gti/vr6s got 288mm.

My old GTI was a 1996 8v, first registered Aug 1st. 288mm front brakes

Well work this one out my 1997 mk3 had 280mm disks and 288mm pads and calipers
Some people are pillocks and just shouldn't be allowed to work on cars.
