Title: tyres with rim protector
Post by: denis on 24 January 2010, 16:43
Need to change the front Bridgestones.  On the car from new and although not that impressed lasted reasonably well (20,000 miles).  However, if I change to a different brand I want one with a rim protector.
I'm really careful and after 3 years the 18" Monzas are unmarked, but I have clipped a kerb perhaps just  2 or 3 times, but not scuffs, so maybe just lucky or maybe the rim protector on the Bridgestone'ssaved me!
If I recall correctly from previous threads the Goodyear Eagle seems popular, but does this have a rim protector?  If not any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Most tyres have rim protecters BUT there about as much use as an ash tray on a motorbike.

I would stay away from GYF1's they are crap in the winter but very good in rain, but dont last very long and they dont protect your rims IMO!! PS2 or PS3 are better IMO!! Thanks Steve

Weird - i've got the F1's on mine and they prevented a fair bit of damage occurring on the couple of occasions I've encountered a kerb   :undecided:

In my experience f1's have a huge rim protector, far bigger that the vreds I have now and the ps2's I had previously.

I'd go f1's first choice, vreds second and
ps2's last. Really not a fan of the michelins to be honest

Good choice going with the rim protectors.
I changed my fronts a few months back and didnt realise the Falken 452's had no rim protectors until a day later. Really really regret getting them. Although a good tyre, once I get my wheels refurbed I will be changing them!
