Title: mk5 Gti
Post by: Tuffymk3 on 24 January 2010, 16:01
Afternoon all
Ive nearly finished my Mk3 winter project car and as mush as i told myself it wouldn't happen it has! I have fallen in love with the Gti again!
I have owned a few Mk3 and Mk4 Gti's and then bought a E90 320d (wife does alot of miles) but now decided that i want to sell it for a Mk5 Gti. Ive only around 9.5k to spend so will be looking at a fairly early one
Just wondered if there is anything i need to keep an eye out for? Any common faults?
I have looked into Autotrader, pistonheads, and will i only be buying a shed with the money i have available? And anyone thinking of parting with thiers?
Thanks guys
Mark

Thanks Alan. Great post if your buying new. I was wondering if there was any known faults that come to light after a year or two?
Any component failure, interior/exterior problems. I'm going to Mot the Mk3 for the  wife this week and get the 320 up for sale, then my search begins!!
I'm very anal when it comes to my cars

I paid £9700 for mine last May, its an 05, 52000 miles, 4 door, some basic extras, and that wasn't a bad price. Though this time of the year you should have no problem finding a nice one for under 10K.
Not sure about the things to look out for, just the basic stuff really, if its around 60 000 maybe a new cambelt (I didnt get that with mine) and look for condensation in the rear lights.
Good luck with your search.

Just be patient, I got mine off Autotrader, only looking for about 3/4 weeks.
Came over from the MK3 club as well, never looked back!
