:embarassed: oks I ve had my golf since dec 09 and I ve spend over £600 on getting things on it fixed and now possibly have to get a new cv joint.
so i have two questions
1. what are the most common problems/faults with the golf mk4 TDi's
&
2. what things can i check to prevent things going tits up on my car
-
Waterpump
Steering Rack
Rear Axel bushes and front rear bushes
...sure there will be more people will sey mate also what spent 600 on getting fixed mate if dont mind me asking?
-
Clutch
-
Ive had to replace the cams , steering rack, alternator pulley, temp sender, MAF, boost hoses, all bushes front and rear, wheel bearings, inner and outer CV boots, steering pump, door module, rear wiper motor.....I could go on :lipsrsealed:
Not much you can do to prevent them, just service it regularly and check things for signs of wearing

tell them how much steve :lipsrsealed:

what with the 4 pairs of front and rear tyres, 5 full services and cambelt and water pump in a year and a half......almost as much as I paid for the car :lipsrsealed:

How many miles do you do in your car?!?!
Boost pipes coming off when remapped because of the silly VW clamping system.

first was almost all my front and rear bushes, had my cambelt done when my alternator wheel sheared off and had to get a new alternator and a new belt for it and same time got a bad oil leak sorted New anti roll bar bushes and now my CV joint probably needs doing so as well.

your door module is that because of the central locking fault golfs have? if it is, is it easyer to change the module or just to fix it ?

Jeez some serious spending you guys have on your cars :(
Luckily quite a few things my brother had already done on the before I bought it off him, these were,
Clutch and dual mass flywheel job was about £700ish from a VW specialist.
Alternator not sure how much this was.
Some pulleys, not sure what these are and how much.
He's had some other stuff aswell, i'll dig up the receipts when I get a chance for more detail on the jobs and prices.
These cars IMO are quite problematic and can be costly, again IMO.
So the money you may save in fuel gets swallowed by maintenance :(
I think I need to do some bushes somewhere as it makes a loud bang noise when going over potholes :( I think it's coming from the back.

True but at the min your not really saving with what the price of fuel is atm
i had a banging which sounded like it was coming from my rear but ended up being my anti roll bushes at the front lol
