Perhaps the pic doesn't do the small bumpers justice!!

You reckon it would better painted, and with fogs, or just about alright as it is...?

second, first looks to old. either way the orange indicators have to go. unless you're going for original styling?

would what be better painted?

Thought about clear, but i do like orange, so will robably keep them.

The bottom half of the bumper is supposed to be colour matched....... But i have a black car, so obviously aint as notiable as say red!!

is there a difference ;)

oh, thought it was colour matched already, sorry

but seriously orange indicators make cars look dated, in my opinion, plus if you have smoked they kinda disapear into the bumpers!
Title: Re: Before, or After???
Post by: JMallows on 25 October 2004, 21:47
I suppose thats a good thing though, i am glad i have a black car and i can get away with doing nout to the color matching bits.....

I like the orange!! Although know what you mean about smloked....

Would love to get smoked, and then black out the headlamps too... saw it on a camper, had this black plastic on the grille, the lights obviously shine through, but itdid look wicked!!

Post by: JMallows on 25 October 2004, 21:58
I like them both!!

I'm actually thinking with big bumpers, two headlamp grille may look better :-\

Post by: doopydug on 25 October 2004, 22:56
Am thinking the 2nd too!

Your grilles both look quite good I have to say - am veering towards them square headlamps myself
Title: Re: Before, or After???
Post by: JMallows on 25 October 2004, 23:08
Would love the square lamps, jetta ones just aren't quite good enough, and rallye ones are just too much!!

Stay with your small bumpers mate. Just my opinion but everyone is doing the big bumpers now. I'll be leaving my small's on for sure.  8)

Too late!!

I've had big bumpers on for a while now!! And i'm leaving the car alone now, as have no money, and just spent ?85 on a corrado interior, which is knackered.

I'm with billydude on this one, big bumpers are V.popular at the mo. I say stick with the small ones but either change your indicators for smoked ones to blend into the bumper a bit or get rid of the red grill and bumper trim, maybe chrome it or something. Both orange and red together is too much colour. Personally I like the red detailing more than I like? the orange indicators so I'd get rid of them.

I voted second - but why is the number plate different?

Post by: Mixologist on 26 October 2004, 12:44
Personally, i like the look of little bumpers, dunno why, just do!  kinda got that old skool/euroed feel ;D but thats my opinion!  altho some big bumers are kinda cool
Title: Re: Before, or After???
Post by: JMallows on 26 October 2004, 13:22
Well, i'm certainly not changing back to the small ones.... They need a new coat of paint if i do that....

I voted second - but why is the number plate different?

It's not!! What do you mean??

Cos it's not his number plate - a spot of photoshop work perhaps?!

Can't imagine you'd have a plate of that value on an old golf!
Title: Re: Before, or After???
Post by: JMallows on 26 October 2004, 13:45
Its true :-[ :'(

Though, i'm sure you all know it's an 88 golf...? Can't have J on an E plate!!

I've had lots offers from people wanting to buy JM 1 though ;D :D

Yeah, could make some cash! Just write some numbers down a piece of white paper!!
Title: Re: Before, or After???
Post by: Len on 26 October 2004, 15:45
It just looked different.
Must be the angle of the shot, the J & the M look farther apart and in the lower one and you can see a fixing head.

:P Its basically just cos i took more time with the top one! Forgot to blank out the screw....

black with small bumpers never looks right i dont think. just looks too skinny at the front

i much prefer the 2nd pic, big bumper makes it look that bit wider and meaner. a single lamp grill might just finish it off!! (im not biased!!)

shame you don't have the big bumper sliders on the wings ?;)
theres nothing worse than saggy big bumpers ?:P

Definatly gotta be small bumpers. Everyone is running big bumpers now. Depending on the car as to what color indicators. I have crystal clears on mine and they look great. now i just need to lower it about 25mm and it will look really good.
Title: Re: Before, or After???
Post by: ...joe on 26 October 2004, 17:16
25mm? you'll hardly notice the difference! ?;) got to be at least 40 if not more!

small bumpers are definatley in fashion right now but i think they only work if you go for the retro overall look. ie modern wheels and small bumpers would look wack. and if your going to go small you gotta get that thing looking clean and simple as it fits the overall style. look in magazines at the people running small bumpers and see the other mods they've done to keep their cars looking fresh!

@billydude - i do have the proper big bumper sliders :P that side is just hanging off and i cant be arsed getting underneath and taking the bumper off to put it back on again!
Title: Re: Before, or After???
Post by: billydude on 26 October 2004, 17:27
sort it out then  :P
funnily enough our don't have the proper sliders Lol
although I do have a set  ;)
but more likely is the big bumpers will stay off once removed  ;)

With 16's you notice enough of a difference. about as low as i can go and still be able to drive these wonderful suffolk roads without the arse ache of rolling the arches. he he.

yeah i know that arch rubbing problem, mine is on 8"x15"s at the rear on a pretty big drop, you can only just see the front tyres but i'm not sure what the drop is as its on coilovers and i just wound them down!!!

he he. I'm just trying to avoid rolling the arches. seen some proper bodged up ones out there. I bet those 8x15's rub like mad.

Post by: ...joe on 28 October 2004, 18:28
nah not too bad unless you take people in the back. might have to do them anyway, just for practicality. does anyone remember in 'the golf' they had plans for an arch rolling tool? me and a friend are going to make one so i'll let you know how we get on. don't hold your breath though, its not a priority!

I have seen arch rolling tools for sale on the net but the price is up there. lol.
