Title: Tapping Noise when turning corners?!?!

Over the last 24 hours my GTI Mk5 has developed a strange tapping noise whilst turned the steering wheel, it has got progressively louder and the taps more distinctive. (sorry bad explanation I know, but i'm no car expert!!)
Anyone have any ideas of what it could be, before I go rushing down to the local dealer for them to look at it

possible CV joint if it sounds louder outside the car. Go to a carpark, go full lock and listen for it with the windows open, if the frequency of the clicking increases with speed, then its likely to be CV joint.

Could be lots of other things as well, something caught on a driveshaft, stone stuck in a brake guard etc.....
