Title: Key Fob - How much can i get one?
Post by: christomk3gti on 21 January 2010, 20:15
Hey guys.

My gti only came with 2 keys when i bought it (14 months ago).... and am pretty sick of using the key to open it.

Will it already be set up to run a FOB???

And if so, where can i get one from and how much??

P.S. It also doesnt have an alarm... think it either got removed at some point or got damaged when it was broken into years ago.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

the gti std alarm operates from the key and remote locking was an option extra.....Yours wont be set for remote locking so the best bet is to get a remote locking kit and fit yourself (halfrauds sell them i'm sure maplin sell kits too?)

or better still get a decent security system fitted (cheaper insurance) as you can get them for around £100-150 fitted with cert

rclick do kits with MK4 style blade fobs, pretty cool kit as you can even hook it up to total closure and boot pop. also the fobs have the hole in for the VW transponder chip if your car is a 96on with a factory immob

yeah can get generic remote cl kits off ebay and the like. as i say rclick do em, you can get ones with seperate fobs if you dont fancy a flipkey stylee one. or you can just use the mk4 type as a fob and just not put a key blade in. or whatever you like!

as i say the rclick can hook up to your total closure for the windows and you can adda  boot pop, other cheaper kits are just locking only. whatever floats your boat!

Like the look of:

Might invest in a kit when it's a little warmer to work outside.

they are indeed, with these ones you splice into your lock wiring and it triggers the pump for you, instructions supplied with these kits are very good. only 1 potential issue, does the MK3 have any kind of lock actuator in the drivers door?  if not all the doors will open with the remote locking except the drivers door!  if no drivers door actuator you need one of these:
http://www.rclick.co.uk/index.php?cPath=53

then you fit the actuator in drivers door connected to the lock pin, or door lock then it triggers the CL as if you pulled the lock pin up or down from inside the car. (If this works in a MK3, do they have deadlocking?)
