My door handles have wee bits of paint missing and I'm wanting to take them off, sand them down and repaint them. Either that or just replace the handles all together. Only issue is I've got remote central locking and the locks are still in the door handles. I would like to have de-locked handles but how would this work with the central locking? The key will never be used in the door even if the locks are there cause if I cant get the doors unlocked with the remote then the car isnt going anywhere due to the alarm.
So my question really is...is it possible just to take those handles out and replace them with de-locked ones? Or will this not work? Or do I need to do anything else to make it work?
It's a mk3 3dr btw

It really is as easy as that mate. I've delocked my passenger door already and when I get remote locking fitted the drivers lock will be going too!
-
just take the handles with locks out relace with rear handles job done . nothin to worry about
-
That just seems too simple though? If you know what I mean? I just dont want to do it and find out my doors wont lock
-
lol try it!
Can still get in through the boot
-
Lol so how does the locks not affect the locking?
-
because the central locking is run by a different bar

I thought that after looking at the haynes manual but I would've the door looks and the central locking were joined somehow?

It won't, not sure why you think it would.

Mainly because the door locks are on the handles? So I imagined they were connected to the locking system even though I've got remote central locking

On the back of the handle is a short rod that links in, but it slides out and leaves everything as it should.

This should help, no27 is the door lock now item 21 is a flat bar that pushes into the lock assembly, it slides out when you remove the handle (don't panic it is part of the ock assy.), you then fit a rear handle which has not got item 21 but the locking will still work 100%

dont yank on them, the rod has a little hook on the end, one of mine broke, and i had to rob parts from anothe rhandle, and some of the handles have diff size rods,
just bear this in mind :-)
