OK, so I bought the 8v GTi. A few points I have noted so far. The body is immaculate all over. The engine is immaculate too, surface grind block, + clean hone bores, reseat valves + suface grind refit valves with new ring sets, bigends, mains and thrust. Also has had an induction kit g2 j2 inj fitted. The stereo is a tidy JVC with an amp and 9x6 speakers in the back (covered shelf so not visible). It also is a 12 disc not 6 disc with a connection fitted in the glove box for my ipod.
The wheels on it at present are TWS. It also came with 5 really tidy BBS wheels all fitted with Pirelli p6000s.
The BBS and P6000s have only been used once to take the car to a Golf show at Castle Coombe so the car could be displayed. - Which gives you an idea of the condition of the car and the almost concours presentation of the engine. Finally I also have a bespoke Golf cover to protect her.
The car is lowered too. So driving it the clutch felt good as did the gears, the engine has great pull and sharp throttle response. All good so far...
However driving the 100 miles or so home it spit with rain and when the wipers were started, the washers went until the bottle emptied and then couldnt be turned off. Pulled in at a services and the washer pump was still going. Played with the wiper control some more and it turns out that the arm is very sensitive and can turn the washers on - and stick easily. Which is a pain. When the washers arent activated the wipers work fine on all settings. It also turns out the rear wiper won't work either. The owner claims this was all working recently, so I suspect this is a fuse/wiring problem but not sure. Any ideas?
Oh and according to the trip computer managed 40 mpg on the journey home.

Congratulations on the car bud, sounds nice! Not really sure on the problem your having.. but hopefully someone in the know can help you out. My first guess would be a fuse problem, but I'm no electrics expert.
About the MPG.. Not bad! The most I've ever got is 42. But as an averge I usually get 25-30.

Fair comment. I will endeavour to take some photos over the weekend. Not sure how this will help with the electric's though...?

Easy fix or a garage? Any idea on cost here?

You can pick up a stalk from ebay for £10ish and all you need to do it pull the wheel off and swap them over. There are a few different types of stalk though so you need to make sure yo get the right one for your car.

I phoned German & Swedish - £34 for only the wiper arm. VW - £60 for only the wiper arm. On ebay I managed to get it for £20 (brand new in VW packaging) so I'll fit that on the weekend. Hopefully this will solve all the problems with the wipers, pffft they turned on last night when I closed the drivers door!
