Title: Are my fuel filters dirty?
Post by: GGGti75 on 20 January 2010, 21:52
Any help or if i could be pointed to a relevent thread i'd really appreciate it.

My poor car went to my mechanic to get a new radiator, alternater andoil pressure seal done  and after fitting them, the mechanic had problems keeping it running it idled fine but as he went to drive away, it cut out this continued idling then cutting off. He thinks its an elecrical fault, which i've never had any problems with, but i have a theory...... Through a similar incident with my mk1 15yrs ago.

The car was very low on petrol, so i'm wondering if its drawing crap from the bottom of the tank and clogging the in line fuel filters.

Please, any help or advice is appreciated

If it's a mk3 the filter is under the car in front of the rear off side wheel. More likely your mechanic has inadvertantly knocked a wire or hose.

I would suspect a electrical fault.

Could be ECU relay/fuel pump relay suddenly packed up. Definitely sounds electrical fault to me.
