Title: Help MK3 Golf GTI 96 8v
Post by: jag1000 on 19 January 2010, 21:37
Hi all...Had my golf for 3 years, engine is standard apart from an induction kit and s/s exhaust system.Running great untill about 2 months ago.Started running total crap, hard to start, wont idle when cold and using tons of fuel(18MPG).I got it on the computer and it comes up with these 3 faults...

Idle air control valve
Throttle postion sensor
Speed sensor

So I replaced the air flow mass meter and got errors erased.Car went great for a couple of weeks then back to the same.(same 3 faults on computer)

Then I replaced the throttle body.I got one from the scrap yard ,made sure surface was clean and smooth.Fitted it and got errors erased.Car ran like a dream, real responsive and getting around 27MPG.Finished my work today, fired the car up and back to running crap(my friend says this is it in safe mode).Got my friend to put it back on the computer earlier on and guess what the same 3 faults.

Hope someone can help,cheers Chris

hey, not sure if i can help... i had to replace my coolant temp sensor to fix my bad idle/crap mpg... but mine woul;dn't run at all so think it's a different sensor. you checked vac pipes for cracks?? a search or two in the mk3 section should throw up some ideas.

anyway, welcome to the forum
