Title: starter motor??

I've just replaced my starter motor on my '96 'P' gti 8v AGG, however the old one i removed looks completely different to the new(secondhand) one, and ideas what car it is off?? it does have the same 3 mounting holes so it must be vag, just wondering what??

could be wrong but i think its an auto one, maybe small block? replacement should deffo look like your old one tho

cheers rubjonny, mine is a manual and when i was searching ebay and the likes all of the starter motors listed were different to he one i removed, they all had what i can only explain as a locating bar on the end of the shaft, which is what i fitted and have had no trouble with since? could it be that someone has replaced it with this one as a short term option? maybe just to sell the car??
