Title: relay 30 help

Car 96p golf gti 8v.
Sorry, but at the risk of being dim but.........  i have a cutting out problem and been told to change the coil and relay 30, top row 3rd from the left i was told, ok, when i looked the relay in the car was 2nd from the left and the relay is white? the new relay is black.

Is this correct?  should i just change it and be done with it?

(location no3 on the top picture for the ecu relay and should have 30 printed on it, the white is no72 and controls the rear wiper etc)
