I am very unhappy.
Bit of a brief, water pump bearing went; new water pump in. During fitting corroded lines got disturbed and ended up fracturing (unbeknown to me!). All the water came out of my car and it went tits up from there.
In short, I'm looking for an 8V 1.8 GTI engine as I just want a like for like swap (I'm all about the standard). If anyone has a complete engine going, please let me know the basic details of it (mileage etc.) plus how much you want.
Ideally I'd like to have it couriered (usually costs about £50) at my expense of course!
Please help make Shep happy again, I've only been without her a day and I'm already well p*ss*d off!!!!!

I'm assuming you've checked the classifieds right lol?
-
Sorry, yeah, should have mentioned that!
I have posted a few replies to folks selling various bits but when they're putting a massive list of stuff to go, the little detailes get lost so I'm just waiting to hear.
Thought in the mean time, get pro-active and see if there's anyone out there looking at the post who has just what I need!
Have I stuck my post in the wrong place again?

Any help?

Take it you dont need to fiddle/uprate the flywheel/clutch/gearbox on those AGG 2.0 8v's?
Also are they just plug and play with the existing digifant engine management sys?

Yes a few changes needed.

need a MK2 GTI head on the 2.0 to make it plug n play, use your old flywheel and box + a new clutch kit and it drops right in same way old one came out. i suspect your head could be warped if it was allowed to overheat, so a skim or replacement head would be a good plan. use 2.0 head gasket and timing belt, and 2e dizzy if its a later 2.0 8v you get. I got a 2.0 8v lump for £40, 150 a bit steep, and 50 a bit steep for a 1.8 8v lump really, common engine to find. i struggled to give my 1.8 bottom end away. I know of a 1.8 lump going in west london area, if hes still got it that is

the problem with buying 1.8 bottom ends is after trying to sell one or two most people dont bother trying again. odds are there is one that can be had for free with in 10 miles just it's not advertised whitch is a pita

The advancing years of the Golf2 means supplies of sound PB code motors are drying up. Skim the head and put it on a 2.0 block with new gaskets and consumables (water housings and belts).
Sometimes it's worth deviating from OEM to make your life easy. Unless you're some sort of concourse freako.

my 1.8 went down the tip unfortunatly, nothing wrong wi it either, oh well. tbh, if it needs an engine dont waste your time with a 1.8, same effort for a 2.0 and it loads better
edit: oh fyi 1.8 carby bottom end is the same as gti, but head diffo so still need to skim uyours or get a replavcement
-
Thanks for all the info fellas.
As I understand it, you're all edging towards the ditching of the whole 1.8 engine in favour of a more powerful one which sounds good. Not a concourse freak btw, just fond of the standard car.
Won't I have to change the exhaust as well? Seems a shame as I have a Jetex stainless on at the mo.
Really appreciate the advice, please bear in mind I don't want to spend millions but I do desperately want my car back on the road!
Cheers again

if you fit 2.0 8v bottom end you can keep EVERYTHING literally just need to bolt on servicable MK2 head and thats it.
although, being a tall block there is a chance the 4 branch will hit the tunnel, so mgiht be in your interest to go with a 1.8. can get em for cheap if you're patient, and fyi carby 1.8 blocks are the same and MK1/rocco/MK2/early passat will all fit.
MK3 is a slightly different unit, you can tell as it has the breather on the front. Some passat blocks were lower compression too iirc, so if you do get a passat lump make sure its PB code like yours
