Title: butchered MK3
Post by: CLOUDSTEPPER on 19 January 2010, 13:37
Hi, i just got my first GTI. Its a 5 door MK3. On the drive home i turned on the cd player and the only sound is coming from the small dash speakers, nothing from the doors.
Whipped the head unit out on Sunday morning and i dont know what the fella has been playing at but it was a right mess! Random cable and connecters all over the shop. Power is there its just speaker wire that i cant find
Im guessing the original cable is down there somewhere but i cant see it.
So, my question is, how mush of the dash do i need to dismantle to get to the entry point of the cable?
If the cable is just not there, how hard is it to fead more cable through to the door speakers?

Thanks

very easy.

you will need to get the cable from the head unit to the tweeter pods in the dash ( the ones which are playing at the moment.). you can join new wires to the speakers in the door at this point.

whereabouts in the country are you? maybe someone could help you in person if you are still unsure.

Thanks for the reply pal. Are you saying that the dash speakers are connected to the door speakers? All i will need to do is remove the dash speakers to find the cable?
Or am i getting the wrong idea.
P.S, im in Cheltenham mate.

thats fine, I am free pretty much all day at the weekend.

There are a few things to watch out for but if you have a multimeter or have done similar things before then you should be ok.
