Title: HT leads driving me mad
Post by: Rain on 23 October 2004, 12:44
since service in early september i havent really touched the engine cept to replace the cambelt cover and ive done about 1000miles since including london to newark and back, problem is the car runs fine then i stop and it either starts badly or runs like a dog after opening the bonnet i find the leads either loose and in some cases not even on the dizzie cap anyone else have this problem as there not loose fitting there brand new and once on are stiff and need a good tug to remove. maybe its the way i drive or something but its weird how it runs fine 1 second i shut it off and this happens maybe my cars haunted :S

One of mine is missing the little bit that holds it in the dizzie cap.

Top tip: Dont touch the leads when the engine is running  :-[ :D

could be worth a go? one of mine is cracked too but stays on fine. Are u sure that they are going all the way on? as they are stiff i might not be pushing them on far enough and just rattling free! do you get a lot of vibration when the engine is idling?

its brand new :S i replaced it all not to long ago cause it wouldnt shift so i could time the car so i hit it with a hammer a few times then got fed up and cut it out and replaced the whole lot with refurbed bottom new cap and rotor arm probably isnt anything i can do i doubt without maybe changing the leads for some decent ones.

I'm sure this isn't the case, but just to be sure there are 2 types of caps that require the correct leads to be fitted as appropriate. When you look into the top of the cap connector, one type has a small stud sticking up in the middle and the other type doesn't :-\ Does that make any sense ???
