Hi i'vejust bought my first mk3 (vr6) I have been looking at pics on here and they look really nice when the plastic arches are taken off, is it much of a job? Whats involved? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers matt

Welcome
Its not a hard job to remove them really, i think there riveted on so just be a case of drilling out the rivets, but the plastic arches do tend to hold moisture and the arch underneath could be rusty, if your lucky it might just be abit dirty underneath them, if thats the case just clean and polish the arch and it should look all good.

Not as simple as that, you need to replace all the side trims along the doors with CL spec as the parts on the wings are part of the arch, GTI / VR6 trim is wider as well.

I think that you'll be paying over £100 for all the side trims from VW so best bet is to get to a scrapyard mate
Make sure you get all 6 pieces if yours is a 3dr or all 8 pieces if it's a 5dr
Simply find a CL and rip them off!
-
any tips for getting the side strips to stay back on as one of mine has fallen off
-
New clips from VW

Is your car 3dr or 5dr??
I saw you asking about 3dr ones.. which won't fit a 5dr.. and the 5dr ones won't fit a 3dr
-
it's a 3door mate
-
So the 4 little bits you mentioned won't fit as they're off a 5dr :)
You need all 6 trim pieces = 2x door, 2x wing, 2x rear quarter

^^^Would look better with a front splitter refitted.
If it helps, this was my GTI with all standard kit removed including side skirts then CL trim fitted (I know it is a 5dr but gives you an idea).

That's a lovely VR mate. I'd be leaving those arch trims on, think it looks mean :afro:
In fact I'm after a black one next.. just like yours!
-
I had no rust behind my trims but there was a nice line deep in the paint where the trims had being sitting for years! But you can get new rivets from vw for 20p each

Mine were the same, I left it with the plan of painting as required but in the end never bothered.
