Title: Mk3 Golf GTi ABF Revs on it's own . . . any ideas please?
Post by: Lukeabercynonnoi on 18 January 2010, 23:54
This problem is really starting to annoy me. When I start the car up it decides to rev by itself, sometimes reaching up to 2500 revs!!

Does anyone know what is causing this? - I think its the fact that it is wasting my petrol (probably very little) but running a 2.0 litre you could use every bit of petrol you can get to be honest lol
Also when I stop at traffic lights and it revs by itself, people think I want to race them! haa

If anyone has any ideas what it could be it would be much appreciated

Thanks!

that'll could be your inlet manifold air pressure sensor. the back right hand side of the manifold there is a vacuum hose. if you trace it you'll see that it runs through the bulkhead and plugs into the ecu. replace the vacuum hose and see if that does the trick. if not i suggest you get vag-com on it to see what's up

when you run vagcom - check the throttle position sensor (TPS) - too

+1 Plus try cleaning your throttle body and isv with carb cleaner.
