Title: Coil packs - made from cheese ??
Post by: qureshia on 18 January 2010, 21:58
Whilst dropping the kids off at school my wife’s car started to stutter and the dreaded check engine light came on.

Feels like it is running on three cylinders

Car is booked in for service tomorrow – guessing it is the “made from cheese” coil packs ?

£89?!  Was that a fitted price or part only?

just one fitted

was having a service at the time, so guess labour charge should have been covered

Hmm I 1.8T ones were about £30 part only.  Can't see why the 2.0T ones are that much more expensive..

Was this a main dealer - if so I'm afraid the computer tells them how much time to charge for each job.  Not called stealers for nothing...

Supposedly if one coil pack fails, it's likely the others need replacing.

^^^^^^^^^ There has been debate about this elsewhere.

My indy garage says replacing after a failure isn't necessary.
