22mm master cylinder upgrade

Couple of pics from the advert;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G604.jpg)

Went to view it one evening, but first thing I did was look underneath and unfortunately it wasn't a pretty sight :undecided: Sills both needed attention and the floor at the front both sides. Told the seller there and then that I couldn't buy it as I didn't have the time to weld it up. However, he insisted that we take it for a run, so I agreed as I had only been in one G60 before. Anyway, got back and loved it so had a good look around the car, offered a silly amount (without his wheels as I didn't like them) that I was sure he would say no to, and sure enough he did. Set off home and about half way back I got a phone call off him saying he would accept my offer :cool:

My mate took me over to get it a week later, put my wheels on it and had a great time driving it back :laugh:

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G605.jpg)

Ready to go ..
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G606.jpg)

First thing I did was change the backbox as the one on it was a bit knackered and hung down quite low so looked like it was falling off anyway.

Old
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G607.jpg)

New
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00201.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00202.jpg)

While it was up on the ramp I got to have a good poke around underneath;

rust  :sad:

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00200.jpg)

and bad rust  :cry:

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00199.jpg)

Over the next few weeks I didn't do a lot to it except drive it  :cool: as I was busy doing a masters. However, I quickly got bored of the ride hight and the wheels .. so got some brand new hottuning coilovers (I run them on both my other mk2s and think they're ok - a lot less firm than my old beetle!) from someone locally and picked up some new wheels off ebay.

Into the workshop (that's now nearly finished)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00236.jpg)

Coilovers

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00233.jpg)

And some new wheels .. 15"x7j et 52.3

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00221.jpg)

The wheels quickly had some attention and new rubber (175.50.15s) and were fitted with 20mm fk adaptors. I also changed the headlights to a crystal set I had as the smoked ones were terrible, couldn't see a thing at night!

Wheels :D

I then thought I'd fix a couple of other probs with it. Temp gauge wasn't reading much so decided the thermostat was stuck open so thought, yeah thats a quick job on a non-pas model...cue the freezing hands and an f'in o-ring that doesn't have a proper ridge to sit on .... anyway, got it sorted then came the fun job of bleeding the system, which sort of worked, but still had cold air blowing in the cabin and the oil temp was higher than before :undecided: bugger. Anyway, left it as it was for the time being because I was getting the tracking set up cheap the following morning. Then of course the tracking couldn't be done because there were no threads left on the tie rod :angry:

Had a quick look on this forum and decided that my cooling probs were due to knackered bypass valves on the matrix so thought I'd remove them. Also found that if I bridged the plug on the temp sender and the gauge went to the top then it was the sender that was knackered (thanks rubjonny) ...which it was, so stuck a new one of them in and got a working temp gauge again  :grin: Replaced the bypass valves with some 22mm copper pipe and got heat in the car too and a sensible reading on oil and water temps in all driving conditions  :grin: Woo

Decided to replace the tie rod, but this is not an easy job with car on axle stands, especially without the correct size spanner :sad: so took it down to a guy my mate knows who has experience with mk2s. Anyway, turned out I'd bought a late tie rod instead of an early one so it couldn't be replaced anyway, but the guy managed to free off the adjuster on the old one and set the tracking anyway  :grin: good on him, and he only charged me a tenner to mess with it then 20quid to track it up - result!

Whipped off the teledials for some much needed attention so stuck my g60 steels on temporarily and gave the car a wash for first time since buying it  :shocked:

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00271.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00272.jpg)

Then my friends got the chalk out :rolleyes:

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00273.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00274.jpg)

What nice friends I have..haha

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00275.jpg)

It all came off pretty quickly (rain), though probably a good thing.

Right, so that was up to January '09, didn't do much else till March when I finally got my hands on some wheels I'd been after for a while :grin: Aero-tech alloys, 15"x7j. Got them blasted and powdercoated in white ..

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00299.jpg)

and a (not great) shot of them on the car shod with 195.45.15s

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00329.jpg)

That was pretty much how it was until June when the mot was due and I didn't have time to do anything to it due to dissertation writing :sick: so stuck it in the garage and put my gtd back on the road.

Was left untouched until recently .. moved it into the workshop at the end of December;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/1291209.jpg)

Started stripping it down to see whats what

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/3291209.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/5291209.jpg)

and found a lot of this :cry:

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/4291209.jpg)

Had a poke at the offside sill too and it looks like it's gonna need a new one, but should get away with patching the nearside. About 5 floor patches and rear suspension turret and it'll be looking a bit more solid again  :smiley:

Got hold of a complete corrado G60 wiring loom so thinking I may replace the engine loom as the wiring all looks a bit dodgy.

More digging produced this;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/1301209.jpg)

It's not actually too bad on the nearside, which is strange, the offside is a lot worse .. no pics but gonna have to cut a pretty big section of floor out and put a new plate in.

Got to work pulling the engine out;

Dropped the rear subframe out;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00601.jpg)

Worst wishbone (hopefully ok when cleaned up);

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00602.jpg)

Took a while to get all the seized bolts out, but perseverence paid off and then started to clean it up somewhat, as well as steering rack and front subframe. Need to go over them with the sand blaster next.

Then I dropped the rear beam off (sounds quick and easy when you say it like that :tongue: ) and started cleaning it up along with the front subframes.

Up in the air (and a messy workshop!)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1803.jpg)

Beam off

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1807.jpg)

Back end looks odd without the beam/suspension  :huh:

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1808.jpg)

Started stripping and cleaning

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1809.jpg)

Front subframes

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1805.jpg)

Steering rack

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1806.jpg)

The fuel tank was next and was a bit of a mission as VW in their wisdom used some nice mild steel bolts to bolt the straps on .. resulting in knackered bolt heads some 20 years later :rolleyes: Managed to get 4 of the 5 bolts out in the end, will deal with the last one later. Had a bit of a fight with the rear beam too :rolleyes: three of the stub axle bolts seized, one came out relatively easily, but two were a right fatherless son :angry: blow torch sorted them out :grin:

Tank out

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1810.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1811.jpg)

Few holes left  :undecided:

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1815.jpg)

Deal with this later

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1813.jpg)

Cleaned up

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1817.jpg)

fatherless son bolts

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1816.jpg)

Sorted

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1842.jpg)

I then made a little purchase :grin: which solves my problem of where to put the gauges.

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/A2_set_of_four.jpg)

That is pretty much up to date now. Next job really is to get the last few things out of the engine bay and set about knocking up a frame to roll the car over .. it needs too much welding to do it all on my back with my face a few inches off the car!

Plans are basically to make it solid underneath, paint all the bolt off parts and detail the engine a little, put a mk2 interior back in (which I already have) as I don't really like the corrado seats, get some mk4 rear calipers (spied some in a local scrappy over the weekend so going to go ask them how much they want tomorrow on my day off) and get it back on the road asap :grin:

Picked up a new rear bumper at the weekend as the old one was knackered. Also went to the scrappy today and got some mk4 rear calipers :) Cheapest conversion hoses I've found are on ebay for £28 + £4 p&p .. if anyone knows anywhere cheaper then pls let me know  :wink: Also found that I can use the 4hose goodridge kit together with the conversion hoses to make the 6hose kit I need so that'll work out a little cheaper :) GSF sell the 4 hose kit for about £35. Couple of pics;

EDIT; The GSF 4-hose kit doesn't work as it is the two fronts and the two rears that go into the disc. What you need is a 4 line drum (non gti) kit as this has the two fronts and the two lines that go over the beam, which combined with the mk4 caliper conversion hoses gives you the 6 line kit :)

Old bumper;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1858.jpg)

New;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1860.jpg)

Mk4 calipers

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1861.jpg)

These will get stripped and painted before fitting of course. My main detail colour is going to be matt white (plasticote) as it should be a nice contrast with the matt black :)

Right, as always not got as much done as I'd like. Cleaned up the worst of the rust on the subframes and rear beam, removed the bushes from the rear beam and found some powerflex rear bushes for £25 :grin: result. Have also stripped the carriers and slider pins off all my rear calipers and cleaned them up a little. Am getting the sand blaster out (finally) on Tuesday (my next day off) and will pick up some paint this weekend so should have some pretty pics next week  :cool:

Great piece of kit this;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1873.jpg)

Resulting in a much cleaner rear beam and subframe;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1874.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1870.jpg)

Rear bushes were really knackered and were very easy to remove :grin: only took a few minutes to remove both - had set myself up for a couple of hours for that job too;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1871.jpg)

No pics of calipers, but the mk2 rears are now for sale if anyone is interested. Thats all for now :)

Bit more done today, but as ever not as much as I'd hoped. Had a few probs with the sand blaster so need to buy a couple of parts for it before I can do anymore with it. Managed to do most of the rear subframe though :grin: just a couple of the difficult to get to areas left on that.

Picked up some etch primer (bloody expensive stuff! Couldn't believe it) and some decent metal paint (supposedly better than hammerite, but we shall see) to paint all the underneath bits in :)

Started cleaning up the rear carriers too, but will finish these off with the sand blaster when it's useable again.

Subframe;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1880.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1881.jpg)

Carriers;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1882.jpg)

In case anyone is interested, this is the sandblaster I have;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1884.jpg)

It's a 20 gallon pressurised jobbie which I have hooked up to a 160 litre compressor. I got it off ebay for about £100 so not badly priced really. I use kiln dried sand (you can't use ordinary sand as it's wet and it would clog the machine) which is about £2.50 a bag so dirt cheap :)

The biggest problem I have is that my compressor isn't big enough, so it's a bit of a stop-start operation as you have to wait for the compressor to catch up. Another problem you can have with it is damp air getting in and clogging it up, which I mostly avoid by having two water traps and an inline filter too. Also, the fittings supplied are brass and the grit wears this away quite quickly (the problem I've got at the moment) so I am replacing this ball valve with a stainless steel item which should last a lot longer :grin: There is an interesting article on home sand blasting on the link below, which is why I decided on this blaster in the first place.

Right, today I bought a 7m length of 2" square tube, 2' of 1 1/4" solid bar and 2' of 1 1/2" tube :) Couple this lot with the two outboard engine stands I've nicked from work and a quick dabble with the welder and the car should be upside down in no time :grin:

Got hold of a few bits; (all on the cheap ;) )

Powerflex rear beam bushes;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1890.jpg)

Mocal oil cooler and braided lines; Just need a sandwich plate now - thinking mk1 golf but not 100% sure they fit ..?

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1891.jpg)

Also bought a new lift pump housing as the old one (right side) was pretty corroded and the plastic was pretty cracked; (99p ebay bargain)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1892.jpg)

Only going to be able to do a little bit on the roll over jig tomorrow as havn't been able to get my welder home from work :( Bit of a shame, but also have Saturday off this week so hopefully put a few more hours in then.

Got the grit blaster on the go today :grin: Wishbones are cleaned ready to be seam welded and got some primer on a few parts (not many pics though I'm afraid);

One cleaned - quick comparison for you;

Not exciting and a bad pic, but seam welded wishbones today;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00617.jpg)

Don't really know whether it's particularly beneficial or not, but thought I'd give it a go as it's pretty much a free mod :)

Grit blasted a few things today, but not many pics. Comparison shot of the rear calipers below. Took around 2 minutes to do each one  :grin:  really pleased with how they turned out. Ive done the carriers too and will get some paint on tomorrow.

Got my hands on some S2 twin pot front calipers so gonna get them done tomorrow too :)

Title: Re: Simeon - "Golf G60 rebuild"

Right, did the G60 calipers today instead of the twin pots as these were already stripped. Will do a proper 'how to' on refurbing your calipers when I get my new seals etc (unless there already is one, but had a look and couldn't see anything).

Started out like this;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1912.jpg)

You can see that I've put some tape round the seals and put old brake pipes in as I didn't want to get grit in the calipers. Shot-blasted;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1913.jpg)

Took about 10 minutes to do each one properly, but they came up great and wouldn't like to think how long that would have taken with a wire brush!

Calipers and carriers prepped for paint;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1923.jpg)

Two coats of etch primer, pretty good improvement :grin:

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1928.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1925.jpg)

Also primed the wishbones, so will paint them tomorrow.

Got some etch primer on the steering rack this eve, going to paint this in high temp paint since it'll be pretty close to the exhaust manifold.

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/DSC00622.jpg)

Can't remember if I said, but painting the calipers matt white - picking up the paint tomorrow and caliper seal kits are on order. Wishbones are painted too so will get the bushes in those soon and got new drop links and anti roll bar bushes in the post today :)

Looking to get the subframe all finished and built up first so I feel like I'm actually achieving something - there's lots of rusty bits lying around my garage at the moment :undecided:

Little update, but it's just more pics of calipers I'm afraid. Blasted the twin pots and put some etch primer on them :) Painted the other calipers white too, but no pics as they need a couple more coats yet.

Grubby old calipers;

Right, an update. Not been able to get a lot done, but hoping to crack on a bit now. Welder should be home at the weekend so hopefully I'll be able to have the car on its side by the end of play on Wednesday next week.

Mostly been collecting parts;

Powerflex rear axle bushes
Steering rack bushes
Tie rods and ends
Steering rack boots
Goodridge braided lines
Stainless bolts for subframe and other bits
Solid front mount

Started cleaning rocker cover - should be finished and in paint tomorrow;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1996.jpg)

Scraping underseal out of the engine bay is mindnumbing work!

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1998.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG1997.jpg)

Not particularly exciting I know, but when these parts are done I'll do the rear beam then start bolting the subframe back together. Bit of welding and be back on the road in no time  :laugh:

Some progress over the last few days. Shell is fully stripped now, just need to get rid of some parts as they're piling up! Shot blasted the two front cross-members today and got some paint on them. Going to do the rear beam tomorrow :)

Today was spent mostly sandblasting the rear beam .. talk about boring and never ending! Anyway, got there in the end and stuck some etch primer on this eve so it's now looking a lot better. Front crossmembers got another coat of paint too .. really looking forward to getting all this stuff bolted up to the new shell! Couple of pics;

Painted rear beam this evening, pretty pleased with how it came out, though I'm beginning to think that the car is going to look better underneath than on top  :laugh:

Right, been a bit busy at work so not got much done, but stripped the engine a little today, mostly to get the flywheel off so I can drop it off tomorrow to get it lightened  :cool:

Whipped 'box off;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2158.jpg)

Put it up on the engine stand;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2159.jpg)

Started stripping it down;

Not really much of an update, but have moved the engine to my work as there is a lot more space there and it's a lot cleaner. Planning to strip the last of the ancillaries off then clean the block up for some paint :) Not going to get much done next week as my daily needs a new clutch :(

Right, well the clutch was a bastard of a job, won't be doing one of those again in a hurry. On the upside it works now and the engine hasn't fallen out yet :)

Little bit of progress on the jig to roll the shell onto its side. Cheated a little bit as I've used two outboard engine stands from work.

One of the stands;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2222.jpg)

Removed the wood and chopped the front uprights off;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2225.jpg)

Clamped in position;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2226.jpg)

One welded up and finished :)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2228.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2229.jpg)

The other one is done too now and have started on the crossmember to be bolted on the front of the car .. more to follow.

Bit more done today;

Finished both stands;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2230.jpg)

Started on the crossmember to bolt to the car. Offered it up and marked the holes;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2237.jpg)

Drilled the pilot holes;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2238.jpg)

Followed by 10mm holes;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2239.jpg)

Tacked the nuts on one side;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2240.jpg)

And fully welded;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2241.jpg)

Bolted in place and marked up to cut to correct length;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2242.jpg)

Chopped down and clamped in place for tacking together;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2243.jpg)

Tacked;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2244.jpg)

Fully welded up;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2245.jpg)

Front one done also;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2236.jpg)

So, getting there :)

Right, got a bit into it and forgot to take any pics along the way, but have taken a couple of where I've got to now. I've drilled the holes in the stands (which sounds easy, but was a actually a bit of a ballache) and welded the tube on. Still need to tidy the welds up as welder was spitting at me a bit today, but hopefully it should all be finished tomorrow afternoon :)

Right, moved the shell out of the workshop and have been tidying up ready to bring the next one in to strip   :rolleyes:

Spun it round;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2280.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2279.jpg)

Then used manpower and a tractor to move it to it's new home;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2281.jpg)

More this weekend I hope!

Right, not the best day unfortunately, but nevermind. Shifted the car into the workshop and thought I'd roll the arches to start with, before stripping it down.

In the now tidy (but not for long I expect) workshop; (A little reminiscent of December!)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2291.jpg)

Up in the air;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2292.jpg)

Arch roller in position after cleaning up the inner arch around the lip;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2293.jpg)

And the result ... not great :(

Offside not too bad;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2294.jpg)

Nearside pretty bad!

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2295.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2296.jpg)

Going to skim some filler over it to sort it I think. If there is a next time I'm going to get a decent bodyshop to do it and consider it money well spent. After that great sales pitch the arch roller is now for sale so if you think you have the skills get in touch - it's an eastwood in good condition, £170.

Anyway, started stripping down the front end;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2298.jpg)

And finally had a little go at the engine bay to see how it would come up and it's looking promising;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/CIMG2299.jpg)

The biggest positive is that I've had a proper look underneath now and it's really solid :grin:

Todays efforts have mostly been just stripping the interior. Lots of wiring to be sorted as there is a bodged in alarm, but hopefully get the rest of the interior out along with the lower dash tomorrow which will make access a little easier.

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2329.jpg)

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2336.jpg)

Bit of rust on the tailgate;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2330.jpg)

Proper grubby having been sat outside for 18months;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2334.jpg)

Some rust on top of the sill that will need chopping out, same both sides;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2335.jpg)

Right, not updated in a while. Have been doing a bit, but havn't got any totally up to date pics so will get some tomorrow. Interior is stripped, but been mostly trying to clean up the inner arches and engine bay ... very very boring!! You don't realise how much work goes into cleaning and smoothing 'bays until you have a go yourself.

Sorted the wiring and pulled out the old crappy alarm system;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2363.jpg)

Grubby engine bay, though have started on the turrets here;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2362.jpg)

Found a bit more rust :(

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2364.jpg)

More tomorrow

I'm crap at keeping up with build threads...

Few more pics, though still not up to date - will try and remember to take the camera into the workshop tomorrow.

Wings and bonnet off;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2415.jpg)

Engine bay getting a little cleaner;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2416.jpg)

Interior all out and a banded steel offered up on the rear - gonna need some arch work before paint!

Right, got a bit more done. Car is pretty much stripped completely now; going to do the bits of welding, clean up the underside then get it down the paint shop :)

Current condition;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2429.jpg)

Rusty wiper blank (as usual);

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2426.jpg)

Chopped out;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2427.jpg)

Replacement patch cut ready for welding;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2428.jpg)

Going to crack on with the welding tomorrow afternoon :)

A thousand spot welds later ...

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2433.jpg)

Sill;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2423.jpg)

Chopped out;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2425.jpg)

More spot welds;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2434.jpg)

Need to get myself another flap wheel now to tidy the welds up :)

This evening I've tidied up yesterdays welding and cracked on with the other sill :) Very happy with how the wiper blank replacement has turned out, but the sills will need a little skim of filler I think.

Nearside sill;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2445.jpg)

Wiper blank delete;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2443.jpg)

Chopped out the sill on offside;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2446.jpg)

Patch tacked in;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2448.jpg)

Welded and tidied up;

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2449.jpg)

Unfortunately it was getting late and whilst hurrying to get it finished I got a little over exuberant with the flap wheel :( result is a low area on the outside of the sill which will have to be taken care of with a little filler.

(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/howardlinn/G60%20Rebuild/CIMG2451.jpg)

Two more bits to go, then it's roll over time
