Need some reccomendations 4 a full bare metal respray on my mk1 gti please
-
care to elaborate ? lol ..

Well engine, interior, glass etc all out of the car then a full respray in the origional colour Mars Red. Looking for an A1 show type of job somewhere i can take the car in and have all the work done then pick it up whjen its done with a profesional job done!

you really dont want a bare metal respray unless its completely needed.
if the panels are original, you can get the little dinks taken back to bare metal, pushed out and filled (to minimise filler), but the parts of the bodyworkthat are in reasonable condition you don't want to go bare metal.
first reason to avoid it if you can - whilst the car is bare metal it'll start rusting. you wont see it, but in bare metal it is totally unprotected. if you can avoid it then you should.
you will pay the price of a bare metal respray in many years to come as the contaminants finally get to the surface.
second reason, the orginal undercoat VW put on the car will be okay and will be better than anything a sprayer can put back on your car anyway. if you don't need to take the undercoat off, dont. it'll also leave the car protected before the car gets sprayed.
bare metal sounds good - but isn't as good as it sounds.
if you are going for show finish ask your sprayer about a mirror finish.

Thats useful to know , do you have any reccomendations for good bodyshops??
-
dont think there is any such thing as a good bodyshop. people on the forum seem to get lots of favours with excelent results.
personally, i'd just go the whole hog and buy a gun, put it to the sprayers head and tell him that if the job "aint f*cking perfect when I come to collect, the next sprayer will be removing bits of brain from my car!!.
you'll probably get a criminal record (firearms etc), but you'll get a perfect respray :)

Theres a guy out near me (Southampton) who makes his money from restoring mainly mk1's but mk2's aswell. I've seen some of the cars he's restored and has done an amazing job on them and can see why he easily sells them on for ?4000+. When I spoke to him about a full respray late last year he said that'll cost around ?2,000. That involves the car being stripped completely, engine, dash, windows the lot.
Give him (Ian Geen) a call on 07946 503450 for a more accurate quote or check out his website http://www.wagenwheels.co.uk/ .

Ian is a quality chappie. He did my valver last year and i'll be back for general stuff like servicing and repairs.
He a perfectionist and he's also usually very busy, so don't expect to start haggling with the guy :)
