Title: Bolt snapped [pic]
Post by: maxp on 17 January 2010, 16:20
One of the bolts that attaches between the throttle body and the intake manifold snapped as i was tightening them back up again

Whats left in there wont be too tight as i only removed it today, is there any option other than drilling the rest of it out?

you may be abel to just thread it out with luck

i have had good results from a bolt extractor kit, basically u drill into the bolt and then you thread the extractors in which are reverse threaded and simply screw clockwise out which USUALLY take the bolt with it!

That seems a very odd bolt to have snapped.

Was it tight when it snapped?  If so, were you still turning and the washer was hard up against the housing, or was the washer still loose and it was tight?

It was *quite* tight when it snapped.

I just kept turning it, not so tight that i had to use my body weight or anything, and it wasnt getting any tighter, after about 2 or 3 rotations it just snapped.

The washer was hard up against the housing, it was slightly warped though.

no offence you really need to think a littel more when working on cars.

overtorqueing bolts is a really bad habbit,  they shoudl literalt spin in with finger torque maybe a bit more then a quick nip up if they takeing effort to go in stop and find out why,   also when excessive torque is used parts can distort this is bad nes on throttel body as it can make them stick

Hindsight eh!
Is there any of the end of the screw sticking out of the back of the thread? Might be easier to thread it through and right out of the back rather than try to withdraw it (so long as its not a closed hole). If you take the whole thing off again there might be a bit projecting you can get to.
