hi i am new to the forum and due to the car not starting i have decided to join here in the hope that someone has an idea as to why my car wont start.
i have an f reg mk2 gti and it has been sat still for a week (whilst we had all the snow)...went to start it the yesterday and although its turning over just fine it wont fire. have checked dizzy cap, plugs, injectors, and they all seem fine...have been told the ignition coil doesnt seem as strong as it could be but was fine before...i've run out of ideas on this so any help would be appreciated
thanks guys n girls!!!!

Try posting in the mk2 section.

what engine has this got
-
Check the usual ... spray some easy-start into the throttle housing, make sure the air intake boot is properly connected and crank it.
If it fires (briefly), its a fuelling issue, if not - at least 1 problem is the spark.
-
f reg gti is digifant, unless its a 16v. either way, does the fuel pump prime when you turn the key 1 click?
as in, does the pump run for a few seconds then stop?
-
hi, checked all the basics as said in first post, tried the easy start method and no attempt from the engine. i've checked the spark plugs n they all work fine, do you think i should replace them anyways?
and the fuel pump does prime, but i hav noticed its abit louder than before so i have a feeling it may be the cause?

to test it you can disconnect the fuel line and put it in a measuring jug and time how much fuel goes in compared to time. it will be an easy test to see if any fuels even being fed to the engine.
id guess its fuel related if your getting a half decent spark. does it even try to cough in to life, or just nothing

If it doesn't fire on easy start - then you either haven't used enough - or its a spark issue.
-
okay cheers will try both when i next have a chance and let you know the outcome!
-
also disconnect the plug from the main pump under the car and turn the key, if you don't hear the in-tank pump prime its dead and causing fuel starvation to the main pump.

okay last nyt managed to get it going after jump starting it down a hill, although a little underpowered still runs (im guessin just needs a good run, clear it out)...today same problem, wouldnt start again but would jump so im going to change the dizzy cap, rotor arm, ht leads, spark plugs tomorrow. if that fails, based on elimination that should just leave the ignition coil????
if that doesnt work then i dont know what else could be causing it!
many thanks

If it starts when you jump start it - then I doubt its a spark issue ... sounds like the battery is nuked or your grounds are crap.

Given the poor damp conditions I'll go with it being wither bad leads, or poor earth.
