The boot carpet in the right corner, behind the offside rear light got wet after the rain...It hasn't spread around the whole boot, so I want to stop it, before it gets too bad.
So where's the water coming from? My first thought is the aerial?
-
I would check the seal around the back of the light hasn't got damaged Mate .
-
yeah i'd be sorting a new seal for that light unit first, if you cant get one then a tube of silicon is always a winner

I remember, when I put the new lights, the seal was ok, but I will check tomorrow anyway.
Thanks :)

Check the rear offside light, and everything seems ok. What else should I look for?
-
lights, aerial and boot seal.....but i recon lights and i solved this before by using 2 seals (my after market one's by fk didn't seal correctly so I used the o.e one's too)
-
I doubled sealed the offside rear light last weekend, but it rained yesterday and it was soaking wet behind the light again
So I guess it's coming from somewhere else? Or could it be the aftermarket lights letting the water in? If that's the problem, why is it only leaking on one side? The nearside is ok.
Where's the boot seal?

Have you got a sunroof if so then check the drain tube in that corner, if not then I would suspect your taillights, the pattern ones can let in water.
-
No sunroof, so I will change the tail lights back to standard GTI smoked ones and see if that solves the problem.
Cheers :)

It will be the tail light dude, especially if the patch is just underneath the cluster.

But why only on one side? That's what buggers me
-
So many reasons. Bolts could be too tight and have damaged the seal, or they could be too loose, or the seal could have come faulty/weak from factory, there could be a part of the metal frame around the light that has bent over the years or the light cluster itself could be faulty from factory and allowing water in.
-
Alright, makes sense now :)
Replaced the lights back to original GTI smoked ones, so will be watching whether it makes any difference.
-
Niiiiiiiiiiiice, problem solved!!!
Today it was raining the whole day, so I thought I would check and see if the boot is wet, but it was nice and dry.
So yeah, the issue was in aftermarket lights....F*ck them - love the smoked GTI ones :)
