Hi
Been chasing for updates on my GTI order and got this update.
"Demand for Golf is currently outstripping supply and this is increasing average lead times for this model.
The shortage of multi-function steering wheels is compounding this issue, particularly on Golf GTI/GTD and GT derivatives. We have identified all of the cars affected by this and, where possible, we are trying to prioritise production based on the age of the order.
We are in the process of securing additional Golf production and getting extra multi-function steering wheels, both of which will help improve production and delivery and reduce the average lead times.
2.5 per cent order bonus
The impact that the production delays will have on vehicles that qualify for the 2.5 per cent order bonus is being investigated and we will update you shortly."

First RCD510s...
Now steering wheels.
Pathetic, really.
...and what's this 2.5% order bonus?
Just the VAT rise covered by VW?
-
^ yes thats it.

^ yes thats it.
Wow!
I'm rapidly loosing patience with VWs bullsh!t...
You can order a 911 and have in built to order, in any colour you like, with any options you desire...and have been driving round in it for 4-6 weeks in the time it takes VW to build a bloody Golf.
It's pathetic.
Oh, we'll pay your VAT. I should bloody hope so....it was meant to be here in November.
You won't have to pay the 2 x price rises...I should bloody hope not....it was meant to be here in November.
You'll get a 2010 plate - how about delivering the car I wanted back in August? I'd rather have been driving it for 5 months...
Compensation?
Er...Um...?
Free options? *silence*
Free servicing? *silence*
Free GAP? *Silence*
VW and their dealers really aren't trying too hard, are they?

I was told the same thing by my dealer this morning except he thought it affected the normal steering wheel rather than the bespoke GTI and GT versions..

Not very good is it ?.Why not make shure you have a large stock before you start building ?????.
-
A lot of car plants work on a 'just in time' system were the parts arrive as its called more or less just in time that way it keeps stock levels down and so costs. The parts suppliers contracts have a clause in them were they get a huge fines if they fail to deliver on time (ironic)
-
The suppliers to VW have probably had to make people redundant in the recession as VW and other manufacturers all cut back on supply as demand (and projected demand) reduced.
They are probably now very wary about taking on new staff to meet a particular short term order. Even if they do it all takes a while to recruit and train etc.
Sign of the times I'm afraid and it's happening everywhere.

indeed but even a supposedly standard 13 week lead time on a carorder gives vw 10 weeks to source parts. Some buyers may alter specs but for those that revert to the standard wheel there will another that adds the mfsw.

The whole thing is mad - paying almost £26K (with a few quid discount) for a Golf (cloth, not leather - yes, DSG plus some other options) and having to wait what I know will be 6 months minimum - all madness - but I guess I'll forget the madness when I get the car - it's far too much money and extra mad considering I'm a family man but we've got a Freelander 2 and as the car that I'll use, it really is all the car I want - it ticks all the boxes - alternatives are things like new Merc E Class or new BMW 5 Series (when it's out) but spending more than the Gti money for a car I don't really want - I want the Gti so I'll have to pay and will have to wait.

Hi
Whatever next -- the whole VW workforce will probably now go down with suspected swine 'flu!
The perfect excuse!
How efficient!
