Title: Power Steering Pumps.
Post by: christomk3gti on 16 January 2010, 01:38
Is there any difference to the power steering pump I.E. 8v (older engine ADY) 8v (newer engine AGG), 16v and vr6???

Need to no as i need mine changing due to a bluddy horrible squeek. which disapears for awhile when spraying WD40 around the bearing area of the pump.

My mate has a pump for me but i need to no if any will fit??

I am guessing but 8v and 16v should be the same, I believe Vr6 is different.

Have you tried changing the belt? WD40 on the belt will have similar outcome.

Cheers.

I'll register.

I've tried WD40 on the belt. it didnt seem to get rid of the squeek. I think its the bearing in the pump. Hard to tell unless i have a proper look and see if there is loads of play or not at the pulley area.

Cheers

Not what I meant, if the belt is worn it will squeak, spraying wd40 on the belt accidently or not will cure it but only temporarily. New belt is cheaper than a new pump and is worth trying first. If it's not the belt then a new belt for the new pump is a good idea anyway.
