only decent size I found was a polrstil 1/25 scale mk2 came in black with rally decals it is also a post 1987 model with quarter lights not the best detail in the world either. Look since deleated and I found mine on ebay a few yrs back and paid £5 for it
Matchbox did a mk2 gti in 1/72 scale red or grey are the coman colours but more of a toy than a model also majorette did one and of course siku (not sure spelt right) did a few

I've never managed to find one in a decent scale, the largest one is the 1:25 polistil one that Robin already mentioned. That's the one that I have on the parcel shelf in Kermit Nick.
The schuco mk2 golf is beautifully detailed in 1:43 scale but now discontinued and quite pricey.
I seem to remember minichamps did a nice one in a similar scale.

I have a couple put away, limited edition of 1987 means it will be hard to find in a few years.

i have been looking for one of these for about 10 years, there has been a mk1 very early gti/cab. there has been a mk1 rocco and a vr6 rado, all in 1/18.
i have trawled over the years and never ever seen a 1/18 mk2 but there must be one in the pipeline somewhere!
try typing in 1/18 tuning on ebay or something, it brings up some very cool modded 1/18 cars.
