Title: Just Bought a GTI !!!
Post by: KIRKS1989 on 13 January 2010, 19:03
Hi All

Just recently joined the site after purchasing a 2006 GTI. Seen a few of the lads at RR days at Awesome so wanted to get in on the act.

Hopefully pick it up on Monday (If i can insure it ) as it is a little more than i expected. I will try and get some pics up when i pick it it

Cheers

Ben

Well Done, and "welcome"...

Sorry, I've got to say though - "WOW!" for buying a car without knowing what the insurance is....

Guessing you've got a returnable deposit if it's bad news....

Is it down to age?

Sorry about the questions - find this sort of thing interesting, as I always (as part of "the dream") get my insurance quote first...

Have you tried a quote from HIC? You can get discount for being a golfgti member. Check out the insurance section.

Give Admiral a try. They have always been much cheaper than everyone else for me and they seem to be able to insure you on pretty much anything for sensible money.

When I was 24 they quoted me £1100 a year to insure an E39 BMW M5 V8 - madness!

I'm currently 27 and they are covering me fully comp on the GTI for £490 a year with £150 excess. I only have 2 years NCB.

FWIW, when I tried them (even with my Golf GTI "discount"), they couldn't get anywhere near my current price.

But you never know, they could be good for you

PS 36, Full NCB, 1 sp30 with 2 professionals living in the Countryside = CHEAP insurance :smliey:

Haha i know that the post i made sounds like im extremely stupid.  I got a quote from Admiral and they came back with a great price.  Based on this i purchased the car and when i came to insure it to pick it up the price went up by £1200 if i paid monthly.  So had to dip in the saving and got it tonight for £1900.

Yes this was down to age - I'm only 20

Just got mine insured through Sky Insurance for £506, they also insure my mk2 and as they use a number of insurance companies (both of mine are with Chaucer) specialise in performance and modified cars. Daniel in sales has been very very helpful. Give them a call.

Oh and they treat membership of this forum as entitlement for a discount!!!

try bell

i was with admiral on my previous car

bell are part of the admiral group i paid 1400 fully comp 1 day after i turned 21 for my gti

very good and easy company to deal with aswell, they will match admiral quotes and admiral will do the same with bell quotes as long as you have the quote ref number

Bell, Admiral, Diamond and Elephant are all the same group. They will ususally price match each other, though, confusingly.

EDIT: AND WELCOME OP! :afro:

I bought my MK5 when I turned 21 because it insure it before being 21 was just ludicrous (tbh it was pretty bad at 21, but never mind) lol

I started off with Elephant and then moved over to our new forum sponsor Greenlight who were very cheap.

Congrats on the purchase, your going to love it !
