When I ordered the GTI the dealer did not have a demonstrator.
Is the roof lining dark and does the dash have a soft touch to it.
Also does the carpet mats with the GTI logo and red piping on the outer edges come as standard.
The nearest I have driven the latest Golf was a Mark 5. It was a hired car and I was shocked to how nippy it was so much so I pulled into the nearest lay by to see what size of engine it had. It was a 1.4TSI. I was gob smacked a 1.4. The handling also impressed. The only thing I did not like about the mark 5 was the big chunk of hard plastic stuck in the middle of the dash. To me it gave the Golf a cheap feel to past golf’s I owned.
When I seen the changes to the mark six along with loads of reviews saying the best GTI ever I had to get one. My all time best car was the Mark 2 GTI so I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the new one

Yes
and does the dash have a soft touch to it.
The top part there is still quite a few hard parts lower down.

No. red piping is LHD cars only. RHD UK GTIs get the standard borring golf matts.

It may have been a 120bhp one or the 140bhp one and they go quite well.

1.4TSI's are 160bhp
There 0-60 is in the 8 second bracket.

Captain Sensible said in his original post it was a mark5 golf 1.4TSI he drove.
In the Mk5 the 1.4 TSI was available in 120PS, 140PS and 170PS versions.

Thats a pitty as the carpet mats in the brochure have the GTI logo and red piping. There must be somewhere you can buy these mats ?

My bad, I obviously wasn't following the thread as closely as I thought.
1.4TSI producing 170PS! Wonder why they dropped that from the MKVI?

Power deliver is my opinion after driving one.

According to the specification brochure, the GTI comes with carpet mats front & rear, with red edging. The brochure i have is dated effective from 01/09/2009.
Is this wrong??

They used to also have it on their www site stating the GTI came with red piping mats but I see it has been removed "recently"
-
Fair enough. From experiance of the Mk5 ones, the carpet mats aren't the best anyway, but it beats having to buy some straight away.
Hopefully my build week gets confirmed soon and can look forward to the mats..... and the car

No red piping on mine, just the bog standard black ones. Picked the car up end of November.

The ones I've bought on ebay (earlier link) are definitely the genuine VW GTI ones...here's a link for a VW Dealer selling exactly the same mats (same part number) - might be worth giving them a call if you want to be sure they fit the MK6

Not exactly cheap, the plain mats in my car are good enough for me, especially during this wild winter!

I'm currently using a set of VW rubber mats in my MK5, and looks like they will fit the MK6 when it turns up. Really handy in this rubbish weather and for days when i'm out walking. I'm sure they were just over £20 for a front set, IMO isn't bad

You've just bought a new VW Golf GTI - it's all relative

Yeah I know, but have to make some cost cutting somewhere, I just don't need a set of mats for £60 odd quid when the standard ones are good enough. The mats are full of dirty snowy grit at present so I'd hate to be ruining pricey matting. that's just me tho.

Hey, does anyone have these? I am thinking of getting them, but in the picture, the red stiching around the edge of the mats does not look very "strong" or "striking".
What do people think?

I've just received them - they are the genuine VW Golf GTI ones. Quality wise they're fine but nothing special, as you say the red stitching is quite subtle. Probably not worth the money but I guess that can be said for anything with a VW badge on it
