Title: Just collected my GTI - a couple of questions though?
Post by: simonkit on 08 January 2010, 13:50

I've just become the owner of a silver 58 plate GTI, shame the roads are bad as I can't really give it a good blast yet

There's a couple of "issues" I've noticed though...

It has the RNS510 & even when the unit is switched off it still makes a noise, maybe a fan ? Is this normal ?

Also the interior alarm sensors don't seem to be working - is there any settings etc I've missed ?

  thanks for any help

My RNS510 does the same. I suspect it's the HDD winding down as the computer turns itself off. I think this is perfectly normal.
Aren't the interior alarm sensors related to how many times you press the key lock, or am I confusing that with something else?

I think I was mistaken about the alarm related to the lock button.

Is it an import?  Some imports don't have an alarm.  Is there a button down on the drivers side B pillar for deactivating the interior sensors?  It takes about 30 seconds after locking the car for the system to be armed - are you giving it enough time before testing?

Thanks for the replies....no problem with the RNS, it had stopped when I went back 15minutes later

Problem solved with the alarm...dealer told me to press lock twice for deadlock - it seems this actually de-activates interior sensors, just the same as pressing the dedicated button in the car

Can't wait for this snow to disappear so I can give it a blast around some of these Welsh roads (whilst trying to avoid the dozens of speedtraps) !!
