Title: G60 wheel opinion.
Post by: RhosneigrGaz on 08 January 2010, 07:59
i know they are a bit marmite but i fancy some G60 steelies for my grey 5dr.
Egay can get me a new set shod with Toyo Proxes T1-R's for £250.
So should i save up £500 for the Ronal Turbo's i really want or go budget/retro?
Opinions plz!

Just stuck some on my white 3dr and am liking it more than I thought I would...  They're my Winter wheels though, so they could look gash and I'd still keep them

If you really want the Ronals, save up.  It might take longer but you'll be happier in the long run.

Get on the forums and try and find a second hand set of Ronals, there's got to be some somewhere cheap enough. Then you get have everything! G60 steels, Ronals and some spare cash. Simples!

I would like a set of steels to add to my collection.

most people confuse g60's with passat winter wheels.

£250 with toyos is not bad.

Genuine G60 steels have circular holes in them, Passat ones have ones shaped like D's, still 15in though.

Gen G60 steels have been obsolete worldwide for some time now. :nerd:

Now I wouldn't put any ideas in your head but.....

If by "right" you mean an OEM G60 Golf wheel, then no, they are Passat ones.
Note the holes in the wheel look like D's rather than O's.
But tbh you'd need to be really anal to worry about it, they were both OEM VW wheels and look the part when fitted.
You could try and haggle with them saying that they are misadvertised, but I think they're a fair price for brand new steels.

The shame about the Ronals is the laquer problems they all have, I havent seen a pair that hasnt peeled  so its a massive expense for new wheels that will peel!

On the other hand, I do happen to know someone (myself) that is selling some 15" steels banded to 8 and 9J that are from a vauxhall so have the round circular holes in that were also banded by Wide-wheels which is now Bandedsteels.com for a price that is near to what you would pay for the ronals but get the look of the steels with the width and basically new tyres!

Decent lol

Any pics Adam?
They sound sweet.

I want some banded steels but I've got to reduce my wheel collection before I can

I reckon wheel collections are the male manifestation of the "shoe gene" in women.

Is it just me but i think ronal turbo's look crap on anything.

Just my 2 cents but i really dont think they look to good on a mk2.

I prefer the RA's over the turbo's...
