Sorry if I've missed a previous thread - was wondering how people are finding the current weather situation?
Must admit the ABS has cut in a couple of times over the past few days, but my Ed30/DSG seems to be coping pretty well. Fingers crossed, anyway!
I think my next car is going to have to be some sort of 4wd. As a freelancer I can't afford not to be on the road. MkVI R here we come! Mind you, with doing around 25k miles a year, I think the fuel bill might make my eyes water a bit!

Not used the golf much especially with the nearly worn out pilot sports, its a bit awkard, had to drop the tyre pressure on the front a few psi to compensate.
My works van as from today is stuck in the bottom of a valley on dartmoor in 7" of snow at a dodgy angle though

DSG works suprisingly well in snow and ice - even with my pilot sports worn down to 3mm!
Let it do it's own thing til you get moving, then go easy on the loud pedal - not spun the wheels once, not even on sheet ice this morning.
Mind, 4WD would be so much nicer! Oh well, think of the fuel and tyre savings I'm making :)

Well I'm so F**cked off with this snow now. we've about 2 inch of solid ice on my street with snow on top. got the car out first time today. parked it up and out again 20 mins later to be stuck again. Didnt get very far. Car got stuck, tried pushing it but all i succeeded in doing was slipped dislocated my arm and 6 hours in A&E. Looking forward to that call to work tomorrow!

Well , i think I need to eat my words about the Dunlop Shyte max , I changed the Eagle F1's to the back and what a differance its made to the grip. I now have the dunlops on the front so far been very impressed in the snow & ice no problems here!! Steve30
-
I'm running Michelin PS2's on the front which are only just above the legal limit (replacing them imminently).
It's so poor on the snow that I haven't been able to make it out of my road yet as it's uphill. Have been using the wife's car since Wednesday!.

My poor old GTI is sat in the garage looking very sad & dirty.Hardley been used the last 3 weeks doing a total of 90 miles.(my bit for the enviroment).I've just started 4 rest days & really looking forward to them after my last 4 day nightmare work days. Was hoping to get the hose out & give it a good wash but no chance in the near future..

haven't dared to drive it. I have had so much bad luck with the car. I have been driving my old Saxo Diesel around. Forgot how much fun the little saxo can be.

I have to say I got on a lot better in the snow last year with the dunlops than I am this year with my Falken FK452's. To make things worse the dunlops were badly worn and the falkens are still pretty fresh... their one redeeming feature perhaps...

The new R wont be much worse on fuel than your current ED30 ;)
I'll pass on commenting how I've got on this year in the snow.

I haven't driven it since Tuesday, since then we've had well over a foot of snow and and I now housebound! Cleared the snow and started her up yesterday to keep her ticking, but I doubt I'll be going anywhere for at least another week :(

Not touched the GTI since end of December :lipsrsealed:
I've been going around on a pair of these bad boys:

Put you R32 boys to shame

Thought studded tyres were illegal in this country.....
Anyhoo, my GTI has been OK - kinda what I expected from a 2wd car.
I do miss my Scooby in this weather - loads of country lanes........sideways :D
ahhhhh.

Had a couple of (unintentional ) side slips this morning, no harm done thankfully, but ESP/ABS doesn't seem to particularly help in this weather!
