The story is I have lost my keys and was wondering if mk2s came with a two keys, one for the doors and one for the ignition? I am afraid that with a car so old the doors have been replaced. Is it true that with the vin number vw should be able to get me another key cut? Thats provided the ignition is origonal.
thanks

should be one key for all locks , unless it's been broken into in the past , then you end up with 2 different keys.

I would say getting a complete lock set would be easier and maybe even cheaper.

Is the ignition barrel difficult to replace?

Yes you can get new keys from VW via the VIN, I got a set for my 90 model last June, I was lucky the ignition & locks had not been changed. If you can get the door handles off, there is a key code stamped into the metal mechanism.
