Good find matey. Out of interest, if someone bought that for the ?350 and then wanted it fitting how much would it cost, anyone any ideas ? Also, if you fitted that what other mods would you have to make, e.g. suspension, gearbox etc. What's a guesstimate at the total cost for this conversion then ? It's just curiosity as my cab is heavy enough !  ;D

for a mk 2 you would need,

uprated engine mounts
adjustable coilovers
upated springs/shocks(not essential but advisable.
G60 brakes

not to sure about the gearbox mate
all needed to cope with the extra weight really.
?500-750 for a professional install ???

i know a VW engineer that could do it for me for about ?300 bar

So for say about 2k you could get yourself a nice VR6 mk2, not bad. I think I'd be tempted if I had a mk2 :)

The Corrado VR6 is a mighty 190 BHP too, in standard form. (or slightly more for some of us) I'm sure the Golf VR6 is only tuned to 160 as standard though.

a remap will give you another 15!, add that to an induction kit and decent exhuast and larger throttle bodies, and you too can be pushing past the 200 limit. It's a whole new world in my Corrado, with these mods.

Would that fit into a Mk1?????? lol
Title: Re: Bargain Corrado VR6 engine
Post by: AdamB on 19 October 2004, 14:20
it would, but it would handle like a boat without some major suspension work

Now that's an Idea - a Mk1 Golf VR6 boat...... :) Would need some serious welding done....!!!!

I am a bit tempted to get it supercharged and start pushing past the 250 limit! ?

Although at ?2,000 that will take some serious thought.

I think a remap is the first serious consideration.

I thought it used to be a 2.8 in the early years?

On the supercharger route - I enquired about this when I was at AmD, and they said that it doesnt work properly with a remap. I dont understand why not, but they are the experts.

supercharger probably takes all the figures out of mappable ranges... at least thats all i can think they might mean by it... in which case you need a standalone management or some kind of "piggyback" ECU .. very fast and furious  ;D

ok my bad.. doing too many things at once :P

not sure about the 2.8 'rado thing... i always thought it was just a 2.9 '6 in the 'rado.. BUT. i'm pretty sure it got both versions of the 16v engine. earlier ones have the 139 bhp 1.8 16v... and later ones have the 150 bhp 2.0 16v (ABF) as found in my mk3 valver :) ?

Yeah, all the superchargers i've seen come with a new chip or a piggyback one at least, so i guess the standard ecu that is remapped by AmD wouldn't stretch to the necessary parameters.

The Corrado VR6 was a 2.8 in the USA.  So everyones a winner!

this isnt a pissing contest.

1) i already said i was not concentrating before

2) ok.. ?so its not an abf (due to dimensions..) but i'm right that they changed up the 16v engine capacity.

my point was.. that as they had changed 16v motors, they may well have used the 2.8 vr6 then stepped up to 2.9 later one.

i know where i got this misinformation from... ?
http://www.geocities.com/veedub16v_2000/history/

under corrado this page says "The 16v got the MK3 Golf's 1984cc engine"

ps

i've ?just seen some stuff in several places basically saying 9a 2.0 16v unit in the 'rado is actually less powerful than the 1.8 which is odd. ?i cant find proper figures anywhere.

136bhp for both the 1.8 and 2.0 16v according to parkers... with a measly 115bhp from the 2.0 8v 'raddo.

im not saying this is a contest 'seer, im just speaking the truth.

just to clear some things up (toph)
Corrado 16v engines
1.816v 139bhp
2.016v 136bhp

and yeh 'seer mate, its less powerfull because of the addition of the CAT ;)

everyone cool??? ???
