Hi all , my car is due a service at 30 000 miles , and is 4 years old in May . The local dealers have quoted me £288 as it is "the big one" . Is this a good price do you think , I am always apprehensive about services but have had good dealings with this dealer , but dont like getting ripped off.
Also they have a special offer on cambelt change for £295 , how does this compare ?

Service price sounds about right. I paid £290 for my 4 year service, this price doesn't include the brake fluid change which normally costs about £50.
£295 for the cambelt is a good price. Get them to change the water pump too, should only cost you about an extra £30 or so, very little additional labour is needed.

That is a good price.

Cambelt is a VERY good price, I couldnt get less than £400 - got it done. As someone said, get the waterpump done for an extra 30-40 quid
My service needs to be rearranged as I am snowed in - I am wary that I have been quoted too much.. they went on about some "extras" etc - engine flush or something? I wasnt really paying attention. Mine too was the "big one" - spark plugs changes etc... as the OP says, what is the recommended price and what should you expect to get from it?

vw quoted me 900 quid for the big one and that was with a discount !!!!!
hence why i went elsewhere but still cost 600 quid got them to change the brake pads too tho. had new coil packs too and they changed the plugs over too which they put thru the warranty for me

Excuse my ignorance (and I've used the search facility), but does anyone know why would you need to change a cambelt at 30,000 miles/4 years? I mean, beyond 'because VW said you must'...

Oops - he said it
Where's T_T when you need him?
Can't help though - this has been discussed at great length...... well argued is a more accurate description!!!

Yep, sorry, just found and read April's 15 page thread on the subject. I'll just say visual inspection is acceptable preventative maintenance for a 4 year old cam belt. But don't spend hundreds of pounds changing it unless it actually needs it.
And I liked this quote:
"i honestly dont know.. im not technicaly minded, its just whats ive benn taught.."

LOL!!

I rang to confirm booking , spoke to a different chap who said as Ive only done 30 k will just do an interim service at £125 this time !! Is it vital to do cambelt at 4 years old in May with about 35 k on the clock ?
