Driving home last night noticed a few times that the lights flickered on dipped beam. When i got to my parents they had stopped altogether and now i have no lights at all.
On switch postion one i have sidelights, on position two only the n/s sidelight. When you switch to main beam all the lights come back as normal but the main beam wont stay on, you have to hold the stalk back! No other lights or electrics are affected!
Any ideas?

Check all the bulbs are good, one could be earthing its self and causing random problems with the rest, also check the wiring in the switchs and on the lights themselves.

I have had this when my headlight switch was faulty - bit of electrical contact cleaner sprayed into the switch sorted it out though - also fiddling with the switch (rocking it on and off - pressing in lightly) can get it to work for the time being (if you need to get home or something) sometimes the switch also fails because of the dim dip resistor (looks like a tube of polos clipped to the chassis / slam panel below the air box) shorts out. Normally recommended to follow the wires back from this under the air box and unplug it - its not needed as all it does is keep the headlights on dimmed when the side lights are on (do a search on this for further details). Also work checking fuses - both left and right dipped beam have them - might have gone.

Cheers all, checked the bulbs and fuses and their all fine. Hoping it would be the headlight switch as i have a spare!
