Hi im shorty,
Ive recently ventured from a fiesta to a golf and what a great decision it was. I have a 1.9tdi 100bhp golf mk4 in navy blue. I just have a couple of things I was hoping someone could help me with.
1. My car has a standard alarm but came with only one key. Is there away of turning the alarm off without using the button on the key. I dont want the battery to die and not be able to turn this off. Ive tried to turn the key twice to the left or right, getting in and the alarm still sets off.
2. A symbol has just came on the dash and im unsure what it is without a manual. Its a red "!" with a red triangle around it. The triangle does not make a full triangle, it has a little arrow head where it is about to meet the rest of the shape.
Other than this, i love it. All my cars have been lil 1.2s 1.4s at the most. This things a little beast.
Thanks for any advice in advance.

Yeah i thought it was the handbrake. Its definitely not on unless its a loose connection. DAMN for the alarm, i have a stearing lock to get off too that takes too much time before I can get the key in. Unless I put the key in turn the ignition on then take it out again to do the steering lock
EDIT - Thanks for those links. Im afraid it isnt any of those symbols. Cool info about the windows though.

That would make the most sense unless you want to get deafened lol you just have to turn it one click iirc, not actually turn the car over.
Have you got a ESP button?
-
Yeah, there is an ESP button on the dash but I dont know what it does and nothing happens when you press it.

can you try and grab a picture of the warning light
to test the ESP, switch the ignition on, let all the lights go out then push the button. A symbol should appear in your clocks to indicate that you've just switched the ESP OFF

2 mins
EDIT - Just been outside, bloody cold out there ha ha. Tried what you said. Turned ignition on, lights went out. Symbol was on, pressed the button and nothing happened on the dash where the clock was, milage or anywhere else.
Cant get a pic. Its a yellow symbol not red. Think of a triangle with the bottom left corner with a gap in it. On the line that makes the triangle it has an arrowhead pointing to the other side of the gap. Hope this makes sence. An a ! in the centre.

Same as this one:

Yeah thats the one.
-
that is the traction control/asr symbol
-
ahh right. Must be some dodgy connection coz it wont turn off. When I bought it yesterday it wasnt on. Hope its not going to be pricey to sort out
-
possibly a faulty switch maybe i think that they are around the £20 mark from vw

Sorry.

Have you driven the car sinse the symbol came on? If you havent go and drive it for a couple of minutes then turn the ignition off and then back on and it may well go.
-
Hi, yeah ive been driving it while its on. Tried turning off and on several times. Could it be the weather? its about -3 here and has been below 0 since i got the car.
Quick Q - Anyone know if you can get a standard key for this car too? (It only came with one) I rang the dealer and they wanted £150 for a new key programmed. They said I cant get a plane key for it. Not sure if they were bulling to get me to buy the £150 key.

that light could indicate a faulty sensor on one of the wheels. Or the wiring become exposed and shorting out
-
could be as rhys says to so maybe the easiest way for you is to get acess to vag-com and see if your showing any fault codes
