Title: Digital TV In Your Car?
Post by: wrkactjob on 03 January 2010, 20:11
What the reception like?...do you use a dual antenna system?

How easy is it to retrofit?

http://www.oemretrofits.co.uk/ seem to charge £700 for a TV function to be added to your sat nav!

digital tv is hard enough to get stationary, so I bet it will be crap, at least until 2012 when they turn off analogue tv and turn the power up on digital freeview tv

I have a DAB freeview tuner, I installed it all myself so I was able to play about with location for the two active DAB antennas. Reception is hard to get while stationary unless you are in a very strong signal area. Dont even bother while on the move. Its not worth it and I have wasted money on mine.

Forget in-car TV using a conventional UHF television tuner - it's never going to be very good unless you are stationary with a 20ft TV aerial on the roof.

The solution will be media streaming across a mobile phone network, as you are beginning to get on iphone's etc. But that won't happen until 4G networks are up and running although I read somewhere Audiovox are offering something called Flotv in the US.
