Title: temp sensor, does it effect fueling of the car? 16v KR

Ive got a 16v KR, and my outside temp sensor is knackered, it doesent show up on the MFA. I was wondering if the engine management actually used this sensor for fueling? or is it so primitive it doesent?
This is probably unrelated, but im wondering why my mpg has dropped from 25mpg to 17mpg, just as the weathers got freezing.

Think the darn blue temp sensor on the thermostat housing is the only thing that messes em up.

The outside temp sensor is irrelevent to the engine. The KR does not have a blue temp sender on the front coolant flange like the 8v, it has a small temp sender on the gearbox end of the head, in fact there are three, iirc, all identical and interchangeable, one for temp gauge, one for the WUR and another for the ecu I think. If you do very short journeys then the engine will take longer to warm up so your mpg will drop off as the weather gets colder. If you do long journeys then the mpg should improve slightly in colder weather.

hmm, ive done several long journeys, and it seems to be stuck at 17mpg. all the vacuum hoses are fine, as its not long since i went round and dismantled, cleaned them, and renewed them where necessarily. So it must be a sender somewhere. even the wur?

Check actual mpg from fuel usage, it may be the MFA that is fibbing to you.
