Title: Occasional non-starter?
Post by: a16vvw on 18 October 2004, 11:27
Hi

My 90 Golf 16v has just recently been playing up.  It wouldn't start one night and all the next day, until the RAC came out and sprayed some easy start into the air inlet.  Then it went fine.  I've given it new plugs, cap, leads, fuel filter and the emissions have been tweaked so it starts almost b4 the key is turned.  But again the other day it would not start...turned over beautifully but no fire up.  I had to bump it and again it was fine.  Can any one shed any light?

One thing in common with both non-starts the car was parked facing uphill for over 3 hours and it was cold.

Well the beast goes in for a new cam chain tomorrow ??? so should run like a dream but I don't want it to let me down again on the starting front (you know what it's like when ur not 100% sure ur car will start).

Cheers for any feedback  ???

Obviously a tricky one

Turns out there's a split in one of the fuel pipes.  So it looses pressure over time and wont start.  I thought the strong smell of petrol in the engine bay was unusual!!! D'oh.
