Title: Where can I get an original coolant temp sensor
Post by: xpeterpx on 02 January 2010, 14:16
Having a abit of trouble finding an original coolant temp sensor for my Bora.

Ebay seems to only have copies and I'm miles away from a VW parts desk

Anyone know where I could get one pretty quick?

Cheers

Pete

Cheers guys & quite right about going genuine on this part.

May be a silly question but I have a SEAT main dealer with parts desk at the top of my road-is it just possible they stock VW parts too being part of the same group?

Sorry to be  apain guys but it doesn't look like I can get the part til midweek-

Will this faulty sensor cause my car to overheat?

no I'd say your looking at something else such as water pump causing it to overheat

just fitted my second one of these as i bought cheap the first time, didnt fit the first myself i did just now thought id let it run for 15mins just to check my work. Car wasnt getting hot at all, then all of sudden i see piping hot water shooting everywhere from the engine coolant sensor. luckly my sis was sat in the car and could knock it off straight away. I think i fitted it a tad wrong sumhow

There is a horse shoe shape retaining clip for the sensor, these should be replaced with the sensor as they usually break when removed, you may want to check that this clip is ok (if u still have it) if not, they are about 20p from VW - may they will post one to you if you ring them?

Also assume that te O-ring was swoped from the old sensor to the new one sealing it correctly?

worth getting several of the clips as they break easy!

my fault i put the clip on wrong i dont know how so when my lil sis stepped on the gas it must of built up pressure and shot out...however where as before my temp gauge actually went up, now ive fitted this no such thing lol...i think it may be my thermostat now. if anyone can answer this, my heaters get hot ish they are warm my gauge isnt going up atm but when it does it gets 1/4 way then starts to drop...does anybody else think its the thermostat? i so hope it aint the water pump  :undecided:

if it was the waterpump you'd be overheating not underheating

when you change your thermostat you can feel the water pump impellor (just stick your finger in and hook it to the left) and make sure it isn't broken up.
