Hey Guys,
I'm probably being thick but wondered if someone could clarify something for me? I've just ordered a Mk6 GTI and included a 510 Model Radio/CD unit. I believe this comes with a 6 disk changer, but does it also come with a MDI Ipod connection, or is this required seperately?
Many thanks - Stu

hello, i think it should come with it
-
to answer your question, yes i also ordered a 510 without Dynaudio and yes it comes with ipod and usb connection in the armrest
and with 2 leads supplied for connecting ipod or usb
-
I stand corrected, though it must be a UK thing, because here on the continent, the iPod stuff is extra.

yes comes as a package in the UK,
-
Superb guys - that's good news. So if it goes in the armrest, where is the 6 CD changer located?
Cheers for the replies

6 cd changer is in the headunit, 1 slot 6cds

Cheers Neil - much appreciated. Sounds the business - my MkV had a changer in the centre arm rest.

Well, what do you know. I've just been down to my basement to check and... I do have the iPod jack in the armrest after all  I can't imagine I'll ever use it, however, seeing as you can put 6 MP3 CDs with goodness knows how many hundreds of tracks directly into the head unit.

yes it also has jack plug on the front of the armrest, but have you got the connections inside ?

Unless they've changed things since they stuck the prices up by a billion quid, when I got mine I had to ask the dealer for the ipod cable. the standard cable I got was the USB one, the Ipod one was a 15 quid option - but most dealers would chuck it in for free if you asked nicely.

I didn't have to ask for mine ? both leads where in seperate packets in the glove box so anybody picking there cars up make sure the leads are there,
If the dealer says you have to buy them, tell them nobody else has on the forum and see what he says :embarassed:
-
Dealers were only giving the USB one at first, I read that they got a memo and boxes of iPod leads saying they are supposed to provide both now. Only found that out after I ordered mine, as the salesman made out he was doing me a favour by giving me an iPod lead as well

Here is a letter from another forum clearing it up,
Good Morning,
Thank you for your recent email.
A multi device interface (MDI) is fitted to the new Golf as standard, allowing customers to connect USB players or iPods to the radio. Users can access menus, playlists and track details on both the radio screen and the
multifunction display behind the steering wheel.
The USB connection cable is fitted to the vehicle during production and cannot be exchanged or removed during the process. Volkswagen UK will also be supplying customers with an iPod cable as standard to improve customer satisfaction on delivery.
Cable supply
The iPod cable (part number 000 051 446 C) must be ordered by the Retailer and put in the vehicle before delivery, if your Retailer is unaware of this process please refer them to Volkswagen Desktop Bulletin - 0991-08
I hope this information helps
