Title: immobilser certificates....
Post by: was on 17 October 2004, 19:16
Just picked up and 8v mk2, has a laserline thatcham immobilser, but no certificate  :(

Is there any way i can get this system checked by someone and them give me a certificate? or does that not happen?

Will I have to have another fitted and have two sodding annoying immobilisers?

Your insurance company will need a copy of the certificate. You can get the install checked/confirmed by an approved company and then you should be able to get a new certificate from them  :)

I had to get one this year for my insurance, they didn't do much really, just checked it worked and looked at the alarm box and gave me a certificate, took them about 5 minutes and I was ?10 or ?15 (can't remember) lighter.  :(

one of my old rst's had an thatcham cat 1 alarm/immob but didnt have the certificate, at the time (living in the sticks as i do) there wasnt anyone i could find that would entertain sorting it for me (i tried but all i got was , no mate, you need a new one fitting for it to be valid with your insurance....?200+) sod that, i went to the local insurance approved bodyshop, and got them to check it out, they gave me a written report as to what brand it was etc and it was fully functional, all for free, so my insurance company were happy and so was i!!
