My exhaust tips are already looking a bit spotted and carbonised after 6000 miles and 6 months and regular washing.
I know it's a bit pedantic but has anyone got any "top tips" for getting these back to thw way they once were and keeping them that way?

An abrasive polish such as Autoglym Paint Renovator will clean it up, then give it a coat of Super Resin every couple of weeks.

Autosol:

Used to work a treat on my Mk5 R32 exhaust tips:

I remember asking this question a few years back on a BMW forum. The answer? Chrome cleaner. Costs about £3, works a treat and lasts about 30 years

Mer polish is good to

dirty tips all the way!!
I actually make a point to not clean them.

That's what they're like at the moment R32. Black and mean.
Think some Autosol could be in order though - seems a waste to have them unpolished.

As above .. use a metal / chrome polish. For the first clean you may need to apply it using some fine steel wool to remove all stubborn spots.

Brillo pad mate, works a treat.
-
meguiars do a chrome polish which isn't bad

I use a washing up scourer (rough green plastic thing) for mine followed by auto glym metal polish, then normal car polish then wax (collinite for me) and it works a treat. Using the wax means you won't have to do so much work the next time. Regular cleaning is the key since sh!te will soon bake on otherwise and get very difficult to shift.

Cheers everybody. Well, I've gone for some Autosol and a scourer and will have a go tomorrow. Assuming it's not up to its exhaust in snow as it's just started again!!!!
-
WD40 is pretty good at shifting stuborn soot as well

I use some dodo juice born to be mild (concentrated, I dont water it down) which cleans them up real good. I then use a little dodo juice supernatural fine cut metal polish then protect them with jetseal 109.

Not seen my exhausts since yesterday they're buried under a huge heap of snow!!

Whats the big thing about having a shiny tail

It's amazing how much you notice a dirty tailpipe when the rest of the car has been detailed and you dont touch it.

Same here...
I think a light coating of brake dust on the wheels and a dirty exhaust is a pretty cool look! :smug:

A consistently dirty car (i.e. bodywork, wheels, exhaust tips, all over) is kinda cool. Especially when it's so filthy you can't see the number plate.
But, having shiny polished paintwork and dirty wheels/exhaust tips, is like wearing a freshly pressed suit with dirty pants and socks.

Yeah, I don't clean my car all that often but when I do I like to do it properly, tips and all
