Title: Replacing headlight and side light blubs.
Post by: Davstylee on 30 December 2009, 15:16
May sound like a lame question but I don’t want to mess it up, but has anyone got a few pictures or a walk through guide of how to replace the head lights and the side lights on a Mrk 5 GTI? I just got my Philips extreme power bulbs through so want to get them on ASAP.

The side lights are a nightmare to do be prepared for cut fingers?? But headlights are easy to do just twist and turn and pull out the main beam!! I did mine a couple of months back but left the side lights alone. Thanks Steve

This should be all you need. I replaced mine apart from side lights and it was pretty easy.

Already had a driver in front of me put his rear foggies on thinking i had my main beam on. He must have been pretty shocked when i put it on in reply  :nerd:

Remember to get your headlight alignment done after you have fitted them! A mate of mine fitted some but had some serious glare until he got them aligned again. I fitted mine and thought they were fine until a friend said as he walked past the car that it was a bit glarey from the side, so I got them aligned and they are perfect now

agreed the sidelight bulbs are a nitemare to change, i gave up in the end, i have the xenons on my Mk5, couldn't see a way of getting the plug out without pulling the wires, HARD. so thought it best to just leave it.

From memory i think it's a bit more difficult with the xenon leadlights, as the side light is under the dipped beams etc.

happy new year anyway

Lights all changed now. I dont see what all the fuss is with the side lights, I just used a set of vice grips, popped them out a treat.
