Title: If your car alarm goes off does it store the reason in the memory ?
Post by: simonpolly on 30 December 2009, 14:39
Can anyone tell me if when the alarm goes off in your car it stores the reason in its memory. The reason i ask is because i`ve had three false alarms in the last 6 months all in the hours of darkness,  once i reset the alarm all is ok.(They are false alarms no one is anywhere near the car when it goes off) :undecided: I`m going to take it to the dealers for them to check but was hoping something is stored so i don`t have to go put up with the "COMPUTER SAYS NO" reply from service staff .

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. The freeze frame stuff with the med9 ecu's is rather trick, gotta love the look on customers faces when i can tell them when their alarm last went off or when they had a brake light bulb go out

I'm not sure how VW deal with this sort of thing with regards to warranty work - i.e you may get charged for the scan if there is no fault which is around £60-70.

Mine went off last week when it was covered in snow. It's the one and only time it's done it and hasn't done it since.
Could the snow somehow have set it off? Snow slipping down the screen for example = movement on or around the car?
I'm hping so - otherwise it mght be going like simonpolly's

There's a similar thread going on over here:

Reasons seem to vary from wrong coding of a 3 door as a 5 door (or vice versa) to global warming

.............to the car alarm being coded as 100% sensitivity when it should only be coded around 60%

Interestingly, this happened to me the first week of ownership. Car was parked on drive and a diesel black cab went past, sounding like a Sherman tank. Alarm went off, but hasn't happened since.

I`m leaning towards the sensitivity of the internal sensors i can wash the car with it locked and alarmed and it never alarms

As for being charged that won`t happen,i`ve another intermittent problem when the car judders or jolts under hard accelaration at about 4000 revs it very intermittent,i took it into dealers and COMPUTER SAYS NO they said they would contact VW for advice because its a new car and ring me to tell me what VW recommended(THAT WAS TWO MONTHS AGO) and no phone call ,so i`ll kill two birds with one stone when i go back and remind the service manager, thanks for the advice chaps

That happened to me, just last week though after 20 months of ownership. I think it was my neighbour, who's a mechanic, who was doing a homer on a subaru. The cars were about 10 metres from each other and he was revving the guts out of the subaru. Freezing when i went to re-set it
