Hi!
I just bought a imported Golf MK6 1.6 TDi S (105 PS) from Germany. It only has front speakers but no speakers in the rear. I was wondering if anyone knew whether the wiring is there and the speakers just needed to be fitted in or the whole kabang including wiring etc needs to be fitted. I went to my local vw dealer and they gave me a quote for £350 for the the rear speakers and tweeters. I think its a bit of a rip off just to have rear speakers installed and was wondering if there are any other places that fit rear speakers. I know the stereo which came with this doesn't support rear speakers but I'm getting a built-in gps unit in the double din slot which supports rear speakers etc.

No rear speakers? Jeez next you will be telling us you have no arm rest in your car.
Did you not see the spec before buying the car ? The best thing to do is go along to one of many ice shops around the country , by that I mean speciality hi fi dealers for cars

well we didnt have any upgrade options with the car since it was alredy built. but did get £4000 off it in the scrappage sceam. so now im left with a very basic model of golf looking to upgrade it. i got a nice inbuilt after-market gps system redy to go in there with a reversing camera. got a couple of front fog lights aswell. just need alloys, parking sensors and some speakers in the rear. and no arm rest either :s but trying to see what i can do about that.

Yes that was an excellent saving. I can’t for the life of me understand why VW want to charge so much for an arm rest. Rear speakers should not be too difficult to get fitted. I would say keep back from the main dealer and go along to Halfords. Just remember if you want a balanced sound you should replace the front speakers at the same time so the tone of the music is the same.

ye thats what i was thinking. i went to halfords but their suppliers don't open until 6th January. The VW dealer said the arm rest parts cost £350 and they will charge me £270 for the fitting whereas if u order a golf with a armrest fitted it only cost £135 extra. For the rear door speakers and tweeters it was around £60 for the parts but £272 for labour. the guy said apparently theres a lot of work to do which made me wonder if the wiring is there in the rear doors?

I also waqnted to know if i wanted to replace the front/rear door speakers and tweeters which size speakers to get for this model of golf. If I'm right I'd need 2 speakers for front door and 2 speakers for rear door and 2 tweeters for rear door. Also Theres speakers on the front right/left side near dashboard aswell can those be replaced? Also anyone have any idea if the wiring is there and the speakers wud just need to be fitted in or does the wiring need to be installed?

Goto any local car audio specialist. They should be able to help you out and have a far better idea than helfrards

Hiya again!
Did a bit of research all shops were closed due to christmas. I spoke with halfords and the guy said for the rear door speakers, fitting costs would be £39.99 which includes wiring installation charges if the wiring is not present. I'd also need an adapter at an extra cost of £19.99. The physical wire itself I'd have to pay for by the meter (I can't imagine that costing much). And on top of that the price of speakers and tweeters I can choose from a selection. So around £120 for the rear door speakers and tweeters from Halfords as compared to the £340 quote which i got from th VW dealer. I was well chuffed.
Also Captain sensible regarding your post on the SatNav. Mate it all depends on how much you want to spend. You can get it fitted from VW dealer which would probably cost you around £1000-£2000 i'm not sure but not any less. I found a nice solution for around £500. I bought this from ebay.

Cost me £285 + Delivery + extra for DVB-T upgrade => total about £360. This is one of those china made inbuilt nav systems with all the extras that you do not get from the original VW dealer including Digital TV, DVD player etc. Great thing about this one is that the look and feel of this is in line wiht the whole VW interior unit and you don't need an adaptor for it u just take your old one out and put this one in. I spoke with a mechanic or whatever you call them in one of the auto car centres in cardiff and he gave me a quote for £50-70 for installation. He asked me to bring the equipment in so he can see it before he can book an appointment for installation. I haven't had time yet but will go on monday. I also got front fog lights for this golf:

and hoping to get that fitted also. All in all I'm quite looking forward to getting these new equipments installed in my new golf cos they are a LOT cheaper than what the dealer quoted. If i get these done from VW dealer probably cost me over or around £2000 and I'm getting it done for around £650 which is absolute bargain.
N.B. Once installed I'll try and upload some pics and maybe a review.

I'd imagine your head unit will just be plug and play.
£70 is all right for 2 minutes labour
