I have just taken out my RNS510 unit from my old car and transfered into my new car but now in the new car i cant pick up many satellites.Ive stuck it in exactly the same place below the unit.
Seem's to pick up between 3-7 of the 12 (anything less than 4 and the red triangle turns to grey and freezes for a few seconds until it picks up more than 4 satellites)
It's a mk6 golf and im wondering when i took the ariel out i might have damaged it as it was stuck on well with powergrip double sided tape but there again would it work at all if the ariel was damaged (no sign of any damage also on the unit)
Might buy a replacement from ebay or try and relocate it, Any idea's????

relocating would be the cheapest way to go..

the gps antenna ideally needs to be on the dash or hidden as high up and close to the screen as is possible
you may want to check you have not got a metalised windscreen as this will prevent the gps from working correctly
the easiest way of telling if your screen is metalised is to stand outside the car and look to see if the screen has a blue tinge to it all over if it has then the gps will have to be relocated to the rear of the car

if its got the metalised screen there is abit near the top around the mirror that is none metalised its so the likes of gps ariels and the mobile phones can pick up a signal through it.

yes it has but unfortunately its not a large enough area to allow the satelite signal to pass through and you cannot mount the gps there as it would then be upside down so will read incorrectly

I cant undersatnd it, It came out of a mk6 gti with no problems at all and re-fitted into another mk6 gti in exactly the same position for the ariel. May buy another ariel on ebay for £8 and try that.
When i was removing the ariel out the old car it did take some prysing with a screwdriver so maybe im thinking could have caused some damage.
