Hi Guys I'm new here from Cape Town SA. Does anyone know if the Mk3 1.6 fuel injection ECU resets the idle speed and fueling if you disconnect the battery for a while and then reconnect?
-
yes that will reset it to defualt, alternativly leave the car running for 10/15 minutes then take it for a drive and the values will automatically adjust to suit your setup.

Great thanks man, did it and it runs much better now but smells very rich when cold and also a bit at idle, also it's really heavy on fuel 7KM/L!!Where should the ignition timing be set on this car? There is a hand made notch mark on the flywheel and I've lined up the cam and ignition timing with that mark.there are also two other notches cast on the flywheel either side of the punch mark?Does the ECU advance and retard the timing itself?

To a certain extent it does. However on them engines you can manualy retard the engine if your are suffering from pinking etc. An old trick was to advance the timing slightly to make them go faster! this however caused pinking when putting your foot down.
Also in the winter it may overfuel slightly because its cold. you should be seeing roughly 40mpg average in that car, depending on your journey of course.

Can the fuel mapping be adjusted with VAG COM or only the idle fuel,I must sort out the fuel consumption or get rid of it.7Km/l is about 20mpg.
